The Key Stage 2 Production of Finding Nemo, a colourful, joyful collaboration of talent, skill and wit, was a wonderful way to bring half term to a close this week. We hope you all have a restful and enjoyable break, and we look forward to welcoming you back on June 1st for another exciting half term ahead.

As we celebrated our pupils in the final Celebration Assembly of term, we have started to think about two very special events in the school calendar — Prizegiving and Sports Day. Please do look out for letters with further details about these important occasions. Congratulations to all our recipients today, particularly for the hugely impressive LAMDA and UKMT awards. The United Kingdom Maths Trust (UKMT)is a leading charity that advances the education of young people in maths. The charity enriches thousands of students through maths books, mentoring programmes and Summer School and each year, over 700,000 young people take part in the UKMT challenges.

Super Sport Saturday

What an incredible morning we had at our Super Sport event! It was a pleasure to welcome so many families to experience the energy, enthusiasm and opportunity that sport brings to life at Kent College. Hosted by our PE department, pupils enjoyed taking part in a wide range of activities, showcasing the breadth and variety of sport available at KC. From teamwork and skill-building to confidence and enjoyment, the event captured the spirit of sport within our school community. A special thank you to our Sports Scholars, who represented the school brilliantly by supporting the admissions stand, speaking with prospective families, and helping to lead activities throughout the morning. Their enthusiasm, leadership, and encouragement helped make the event such a success.

A brilliant, engaging performance by all - what a team! Mrs Hall

What happened in School this week?

Caterpillars

This week, Caterpillars have been having lots of fun learning about different animals. They explored farm, jungle, zoo and pet animals, talking about their favourites, making animal noises, singing songs and taking part in a variety of themed activities. The children also enjoyed taking their animals to the vets and showed brilliant teamwork while building enclosures to keep them safe. It has been a wonderful week full of imagination, creativity and learning.

Butterflies

What a busy and exciting week we have had! We have been outside enjoying what has felt like every season in one week. The children have been busy constructing, painting, sticking and creating, while also learning new phonics sounds and having lots of fun with numbers. We also enjoyed watching Finding Nemo and have even started rehearsals for our very own assembly. It has been a wonderful week!

Reception

Our story in Reception this week has been Handa’s Surprise. We discussed the similarities and differences living here and in Kenya. The children talked about what was happening in the story, anticipating what would happen next and they loved the surprise at the end. We discussed the different fruit in the story and had fun tasting them and using our senses to describe them. The children then all chose their favourite fruit and wrote about what it was like by again using their senses and describing words.

Year 1

Year 1 are really enjoying their cricket lessons; they have been practising batting and bowling, as well as learning how the fielders all need to work together when the ball is struck! They have also been looking at work by Kandinsky and copying his colourful circle repeats. They loved watching the KS2 dress rehearsal and were inspired by the colourful set design and story as we wrote our own under the sea adventure finishing off our unit on the book "Julian is a mermaid."

Year 2

Year 2 were shocked to discover a gigantic iceberg had appeared in their classroom overnight! They knew a disaster was about to happen. Excitement filled the room as each child stepped into the shoes of a real-life child passenger aboard the RMS Titanic in 1912. Through dramatic role play, they experienced the wonder of setting sail on the world’s most famous ship before the shocking moment it struck the iceberg. The children brought the story of the Titanic sinking to life with incredible acting, imagination and emotion, making history feel real all around them.

Year 3

In Science Year 3 have been learning about plants. They all created an information poster to show they understand the parts and functions of a flower.  Then they all carefully dissected a flower and labelled it to show the stamen, anther and filament, the carpel, stigma, style, ovule and ovary. And finally, the petals, sepal and stem. It was a really practical and interesting lesson!

Year 4

This week has been all about Finding Nemo! The children have worked incredibly hard rehearsing for the performance, and Year 4 truly shone as the seagulls. In between all that dedication and enthusiasm, they have still managed to fit in some fantastic learning—exploring circuits in Science, developing their understanding of human and physical geography, and even beginning to learn the art of persuasion. We also had a lovely time on the confidence course with Chaplain Katie. Have a wonderful break!

Year 5

It has been a wonderfully busy and creative week! The children have thrown themselves enthusiastically into rehearsals for the much awaited production of Finding Nemo. From mastering stage directions to perfecting songs, their confidence and teamwork shone through in each performance. Alongside all the drama and creativity, the class have also been putting their maths skills to excellent use. As a morning challenge, they explored the classroom in a whole new way by calculating the area and perimeter of a range of rectangular objects. From tables to books and even whiteboards, they applied their knowledge brilliantly and showed great problem-solving skills. It has been fantastic to see such enthusiasm in both the arts and maths this week—well done, Year 5, for your hard work and positivity!

What an amazing end to a memorable half term for Year 6!

After a couple of days of intense rehearsals, Year 6 starred in a fantastic production of Finding Nemo Jr. Enormous thanks must go to Mrs Lennon and Millie for giving up their time (including evenings) to help us, but our greatest thanks go to Ms Rivett and Mrs Lawson-Wood for patiently guiding us through and creating one of the best and longest lasting memories of the year. THANK YOU!
