Principal's Message
Welcome to week 8 at Mullumbimby High School. The term is flying by with students and staff involved in many great opportunities.
Commending efforts during NAPLAN testing
The NAPLAN testing window continues this week and our students are to be commended on their efforts last week. Whilst there was some nationwide interruptions early last week, our staff and students handled it in their stride for a success staging of this year’s assessment. These tests provide valuable information to support student learning and help us tailor our teaching strategies to ensure that students have the skills they need for success in their literacy and numeracy.
South Passage sailing from this afternoon
A group of Year 9 students and staff head off this week on the South Passage Sailing adventure. This annual event provides a safe and challenging experience, using the ship as a medium to develop leadership, initiative, independence and self-discipline. We wish the students and staff a safe and steady journey.
Representative Sports
Mullumbimby High School continues to excel in the representative sporting arena. In the past weeks, we have had numerous students gain selection in the Far North Coast and North Coast teams in boys and girls Rugby, Rugby League and Australian Football. We wish our talented athletes all the best at their upcoming championships.
Resilience in Our Teens (RIOT)
Looking ahead, we are excited to once again be participating in the RIOT (Resilience in our teens) program. A central element of the program is for the students to be brave, to have a go and, not avoid difficult tasks or situations, which are within their ability to cope with. The resilience activities will be followed with an afternoon of fun at the pool on the inflatable obstacle course.
Excursion in Gold Coast
The Year 10 Young Men’s Engagement group had an awesome experience at the Gold Coast Titans first grade training session. Our students were delighted to watch the team prepare for their match and spent some time on the field with the players practicing their skills in an elite environment.
Footwear at school
This is a friendly reminder to families that students are required to wear appropriate, enclosed footwear at school. Footwear such as Slides, Ugg boots, Crocs, and Birkenstocks does not meet the school’s safety requirements and should not be worn to school. These types of shoes present a safety hazard, particularly during practical lessons and when moving around the school grounds. For this reason, students must wear fully enclosed shoes that provide adequate protection and support. If a student arrives at school wearing inappropriate footwear, they may be excluded from certain classes where there is a safety risk. In these situations, the school will contact parents or carers and request that a suitable pair of enclosed shoes be brought to school for the student to change into. We appreciate your support in ensuring that students come to school dressed safely and appropriately each day. Josh Edwards RELIEVING PRINCIPAL
Library News
It may be Oscar season in Hollywood but Mullumbimby High school library is ahead of the game by encouraging students to read the book before watching the film with their display "I heard the book was better." Anyone keen to tell us?
Reminder of school procedures: Leaving Early, Arriving Late or Messages
GOING AWAY 5 DAYS OR MORE? A reminder to our school community that the NSW DET requires that parents arrange holiday DURING school vacations. If your family holiday is during school time, you will need to inform the School Principal in advance and submit a permission to leave from school. An application for leave should be provided at least two weeks prior to departure. Ask our office for an “Application for Leave” BEFORE the holiday. ABSENT, LATE OR EARLY? If your child is not at school, let us know they are safe. We will let you know they are not at school with an SMS message if we have not heard from you. COMING IN LATE? School starts every day at 8:50am for all students. If students arrive after that time and miss CARE (roll call), please let the school know why they are late or provide them with a note. Students need to sign in at Student Services Office as soon as they arrive on the premises. LEAVING EARLY? Only legitimate one-off appointments will be approved by the principal. A note or a phone call should be made to Student Services before 9:30am and a leave pass will be processed. MESSAGES TO STUDENTS? Please call before 2pm. Only URGENT messages will be passed on during class time. We ask that all arrangements regarding after school activities be discussed with your student BEFORE school to avoid stress and distraction.
Homework Club
Attendance Matters
Coming to school regularly makes a big difference - it helps you keep up with your learning, stay connected, and give yourself the best chance to succeed. We're excited to announce that this year, we're recognising students who show a strong commitment to being at school. At the end of each term, all students with 95% attendance or higher will go into the draw to win a $500 gift voucher. Two vouchers will be awarded every term so there's plenty of chances to win. Vouchers can be used at a range of stores, including JB Hi-Fi, Foot Locker, City Beach, EB Games and plenty of other leading retailers. So come to school each day, stay consistent, and you could be in the draw to win $500!

A Note from our P&C
Dear MHS P&C members and friends, Thank you to everyone who attended the Annual General Meeting and General Meeting on Monday evening and welcome our new members. It was a positive start to the year with a number of encouraging updates and initiatives underway. At the AGM, the following Executive team was elected for 2026:
- President: Amy Colli
- Vice Presidents: Tanya H and Caroline Henning
- Secretary: Sharon McGrath
- Treasurer: Evie Graham
- Executive Member: Cindy Alice
We especially want to thank Cindy Alice for her time and dedication as Vice President over the past four years. Cindy remains a vital member of the executive team and continues to actively contribute to various P&C activities and initiatives, as well as representing the P&C on selection panels when required.
The meeting also confirmed several key coordinator roles, including Dorothee continuing as Uniform Shop Coordinator, Caroline and Tanya as Fundraising Coordinators, and Sharon assisting with Grant Writing coordination. The P&C is seeking a Communications Coordinator, additional assistance with grant writing and volunteers for the Uniform Shop.
A few positive highlights from the evening included:
- P&C finances remain strong, with a surplus of just over $7,300 for 2025, allowing the P&C to continue supporting school programs and student opportunities.
- The Uniform Shopcontinues to be an important service for families and a major income stream for the P&C. Thank you to Dottie for her continued commitment as coordinator.
- Last year’s Trivia Night fundraiser was a fantastic community event, raising just over $4,000 for student wellbeing initiatives and the ongoing development of the Garihma Wellbeing space. Planning is already underway for this year’s event.
- The P&C continues to provide support for students representing the school at state and national levels, and is working more closely with faculty through the Faculty Wishlist initiative to help identify priorities for grants and future funding.
- The committee has also approved improvements to the Uniform Shop system, moving to a simpler platform that will make it easier for volunteers to help run the shop.
For more details, feel free to request access to the meeting minutes. The P&C plays an important role in supporting Mullumbimby High School through fundraising, grants and community connection. If you’d like to get involved – even occasionally – we’d love to hear from you.
The P&C's next meeting will be held on Monday, 4 May, at 5:30pm in the library – put it in your calendar, and we'll see you there!
