Volleyball Closes Historic Run in NCAA Elite Eight

The Colby Volleyball team took their 26-3 record and recent regional championship to the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Tournament, hosted by Illinois-Wesleyan University. The Mules battled #10 Trinity (TX) all the way to extra points in the fifth and final set but fell just short.

Cyanne Jones, Brady Moseley

After dropping the opening set 21-25, the Mules bounced right back in the second 25-18 to tie it at one.  The third set was a back and forth battle with Trinity (TX) taking a 16-19 lead before Colby went on a run behind the serving of Brady Moseley to jump ahead 23-21.  The Tigers finished the set with a run of their own to take the 23-25 victory.

The fourth set was neck and neck through the first half until Colby pulled away 13-10, 16-12, 22-15, and then finally taking the set 25-16. The fifth set was as even as the rest of the match, with ties at 10, 12, 14 and even extra points at 16.  The Tigers were able to pull out back-to-back points when it mattered and closed the fifth 16-18.

What we have accomplished in our growth on the court and as players outshines our record by far."
