Year 2 have been time traveling again this week. The children have been exploring what schools were like in the 1900's, comparing them to the classrooms of today. They examined the different features of old and modern schools, sketching out what a typical classroom would have looked like back then and now. Using a timeline, they counted back through the decades, carefully sorting objects into their correct time periods. The Children were fascinated by slate boards, ink wells, and strict rows of desks, so different from the bright and interactive spaces they learn in today.
Bringing history to life, the children engaged in some brilliant drama, stepping into the shoes of schoolchildren from the past. As part of their Mantle session, they tackled the big question: did children from the past have the same opportunities as children today? They worked hard to investigate, discuss, and present their findings to Mr. Walters from the Education Society, displaying excellent role-play skills. The children were confident when reporting their findings and showed just how much they had learned and they all agreed, school today is a very different experience from the past.
We had a fantastic problem solving morning on Friday and the children were absolutely brilliant. They tackled a range of math's challenges, using their reasoning skills to find solutions to the questions. It was also Red Nose Day and our whole school Talents Show...it was a fun day!
The children had a visit from Dogs Trust this week, and they loved it. We learned about the amazing work they do to care for dogs in need and they taught us some fascinating facts about our furry friends. The children were especially interested in learning how to behave safely and respectfully around dogs, picking up some great tips along the way. The children were engaged during the session, asking some great questions.
