Cylchlythyr Ysgol Saltney Ferry "Cydweithio, gallwn gyd llwyddo."

Welcome to this week's newsletter,

It's been another very busy but productive week in Saltney Ferry CP. This half term is always incredibly exciting with the children ready to rehearse for the Christmas performances. It is a lovely time to be a school setting with so many exciting activites for the children to engage in. Before all of this though, the children continue to work very hard in lessons - whenever I walk through classrooms children are always on task and very keen to share their work with me (looking for headteacher's awards!) We took a group of year 5 and 6 children to a football tournament at Airbus on Thursday. The children played well and scored 3 goals. The way they represented the school was excellent. Thank you all for the poppy donations. The lady collecting them was overwhelmed at the amount that we had given. She said that Saltney Ferry always give so much and wanted me to say thank you from her. Finally we are saying goodbye to Mrs Wilde, who is taking up a new role in Southdown CP in Buckley. Mrs Wilde has been an amazing member of our staff team and has formed very strong relationships with the children. We are all going to miss her expertise (and patience) and would like to wish her every success in her new role!

Have a great weekend,

Mr Martin

Superb week in Dosbarth Alwen. We started the week off getting creative making a range of poppy collages to honour rememberance day. In the areas, we have been practising SATPIN sounds following on from our phonics. Maths, we've been looking at numbers 4&5 and how we can show them in different ways, compare them & form them.  Udeskole & PE we're both a highlight this week with our new ready, set, go game🤩

This week in Dosbarth Tegid we have been learning about the importance of Remembrance day. The children showed great respect as we did a two minutes silence to honour those who have served and sacrificed. We also enjoyed a creative activity, making our very own poppy biscuits – they looked and tasted yummy! In maths we have been learning all about fractions. The class have been working hard to understand halves, quarters and thirds. The pizza parlour in class has helped us with this! 😊 We also enjoyed a hot chocolate with marshmallows for outdoor learning☕️. It’s been another wonderful week of learning in Dosbarth Tegid!

On Udeskole, we always start with a snack!

Brenig have delved into the local history of our train station this week and learnt a few amazing facts. They have continued to add to their blogs which will be hosted on our school website once finalised. We also explored poetry linked with remembrance day and added our own art work. In numeracy we have used our harvest to develop measuring skills using our vegetables!

In our Udeskole we took Vinny for a walk....why not!

Dosbarth Gwynant have had another great week of fun and hard work! We have started researching the royal family ready to write our biographies next week! We have explored differences between the royals in history and present day. Once we had researched, we did some hot seating and acted like monarchs from different periods in history and answered questions in character, this was very fun😅 Some of our children were also chosen to represent our school in a football tournament. They did us super proud and represented our school so well by being mature, working together and having fun!

Financial Education

We are thrilled to share that we've an exciting project coming this year. Young Enterprise have secured funding to work with our school, pupils and staff to embed financial education into our curriculum. Staff will be meeting with our mentor before Christmas and will be able to share more details with you then of how we are going to develop this project.

With the passion for business shown by our older pupils we can't wait to roll this project through our classes.

Fferm Y Ferry

Another fabulous clwb ffermio this week. More of the original Ferry Farmers paid us a visit, we got to work with our picker pals kit, prepared a planting area with composted bedding, cleaned the hens and cared for our goats - nothing goes to waste! With the new rules on hen housing for the time being, we've halved our flock for now and made some enrichment changes to their enclosure. Hopefully 'flockdown' won't last too long.

We received our PickerPals kit this week. This will enable our pupils to pick litter on our site and we look forward to our older pupils helping in the community.
