Message from the Leadership Team

Dear Parents and Carers,

We hope this letter finds you well. We would like to take this opportunity to extend our thanks to everyone involved in our recent open mornings and last night’s open evening. I found it genuinely quite overwhelming to see the enthusiasm of the students who helped throughout the night, from guiding people from the carpark, to speaking alongside Mr Hewitt and me in the hall, across to every single department in the school. They were all incredible. We were also joined by Mia, Noadswood Alumni, back with us for one more talk to the parents and children, and Tom Weeks, Noadswood Alumni and now member of our Trust Board. I am equally grateful for his time and participation on behalf of all our Trustees.

We are delighted to have had a higher than typical number of Year 6 families who have chosen Noadswood as their school of choice by this point in term and I remain thankful and humble about the trust put in us and the excitement for the adventures ahead, despite the huge step it is in the children’s young lives, needing to be decided upon so early in Year 6. I am equally grateful for the hard work and dedication of so many of your young people and my colleagues, who consistently show heartfelt commitment in all that they do.

Two remaining open mornings are calendared on the 1st and 2nd of October. These sessions are designed for families who wish to revisit our school or who may benefit from a smaller tour. Should you have any questions or require assistance as you navigate the transition to secondary school, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at movingup@noadswood.hants.sch.uk.

It’s been lovely to deliver our 'Moving Up Reads' to our local primaries, as we have visited them over the past few weeks; details of the accompanying competition can be found below, and we encourage all Y6s to take part – we have much to learn from you all, whether you choose Noadswood or one of the other terrific schools in this area.

It was great to hear from a parent this week about four of our students who are going to be performing in the Waterside Musical Society Production of Alice in Wonderland , Amy, Becca, Izzy and Brooke.

I would like to offer them a big encouraging cheer, as well as promote their event below. It runs from Wednesday 29th October at the Fawley Royal British Legion, and I will be there on the opening night to cheer in person. More information is available on Facebook if you have this platform: https://facebook.com/events/s/alice-the-musical/1239415258200966/  tickets can be purchased here:

We would love to promote the hard work of students outside of school, so don’t hesitate to drop me a line at headteacher@noadswood.hants.sch.uk as has happened here with the information.

I’ve enjoyed hearing about some super school sports this week, too, including that the Year 7 rugby team won their first fixture representing the school vs Lift New Forest yesterday evening with a convincing score of 45-0! Mr Cross told us,

‘The boys were absolutely buzzing after the match that was played in great spirit. Despite the scoreline, the game was competitive and played in the right way! They were particularly happy with the hotdogs after the game provided by Fawley RFC.’ A shout out to Malie, as well, who was Players’ Player in her first game for Noadswood against Priestlands in Netball this week. The final highlight for me was last night’s combined Year 10/11 Rugby team who won 36-5 but, more importantly, demonstrated a superb ethos from training right the way through the match, well-supported by their friends.

Lastly, we hope as you read this on our INSET day, that the students are having a lovely day whatever they are doing. We recognise that for some families these days pose some childcare challenges and thank you for your support. Our INSET days provide essential training for our colleagues at Noadswood, and we are thankful for the time.

If you need us, or have anything on your minds as we go into another weekend, please contact us using ClassCharts or the contact details found here on the school website: https://www.noadswood.hants.sch.uk/contact-us

You can also use info@noadswood.hants.sch.uk and we will direct your mail from there.

With all our best,

Kathryn Marshall and the Noadswood Leadership Team

Coaching and Restorative Practice

s you know, we’re always looking for ways to better support our students - not just academically, but emotionally and socially too. That’s why we’re making an important shift in how we approach conversations with students when things go wrong. While restorative practices have offered valuable tools over the years, we’ve noticed that many students now associate restorative conversations with being in trouble

Our Coaching Pledge

We’re rebranding these moments as coaching conversations—a more positive, future-focused approach that aligns with our values as a learning community.

Here’s our pledge:

When a child makes a mistake, we will:

Be supportive, not punitive – Helping them understand their behaviour and learn better strategies.

Be collaborative – Making sure they are active participants in the conversation.

Focus on the future – Exploring what can be done differently next time, rather than dwelling on the past.

Empower them – Ensuring they feel heard, respected, and capable of change.

Stay true to our values – Building trust, resilience, and personal responsibility in every interaction.

Together, we’re committed to using coaching conversations as a tool for growth, empowerment, and lasting change.

Security Bike Marking

Information regarding this event has been emailed to all parents and local schools. If you would like your child's bike or scooter security marked by the Police, you will need to complete the disclaimer form that has been sent home. Copies of the form have also been printed and are available from Reception.

The event will take place from 2-4pm by the new bike shelter. Entry to this event will be through the gates on Water Lane.

Year 7 Team Building Day and Disco

We are excited for the upcoming Year 7 Team Building Day on Thursday 2nd October. This will be a great opportunity for the children to continue to build relationships with others in their tutor group whilst working through some team building and problem-solving challenges. Further details have been sent out in an email to parents and carers. This will be followed by the Year 7 Disco on Friday 3rd October, tickets for this need to be bought in advance through Arbor.

We have been really impressed with how Year 7 have settled into life at Noadswood and we hope they are starting to feel like part of our school family.

Prom Dress and Formal Wear Plea

We are seeking donations of gently used prom dresses, suits, and other items of formal attire. These contributions will support our Year 11 students in preparing for their prom, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to participate fully in this important occasion.

We welcome donations in all sizes and styles. Items may be delivered to the school office.

Your generosity will help us create a memorable and inclusive experience for all our Year 11 students.

History

We are looking forward to the Year 11 History trip to Fort Nelson, Fareham on Wednesday 1st October. Please can all students on the trip register with their tutor at 8:45am and then head over to the Sports Hall for 8:50am. Students will need to bring a packed lunch, and dress appropriately as it can be cold. We should arrive back to school no later than 3:00pm.

Year 11 Prepare to Perform Programme

A full calendar of after school revision sessions can be found on our school website here: Year 11 Revision Plan Autumn 2025.pdf

Year 11 PLRs

A reminder that PLRs are running for the next fortnight. Each student will have a 10 min appointment with their tutor to discuss their mock exam results from last summer. Students do not need to attend regular tutor time during this fortnight, unless they are meeting their tutor for their PLR, but all students are expected to be in school each day at 08:55 for registration. If for any reason your student needs to be in school at the normal time of 08:45, they can still go to their tutor room and use this as an opportunity to read or revise.

Careers

This week, Year 11 attend three college assemblies and heard from the following:

Brockenhurst College

Totton College

Barton Peveril College

South Hampshire College Group

St Anne’s Sixth Form College

Richard Taunton

Sparsholt College

Peter Symonds College

The colleges explained the courses and extracurricular opportunities they offer as well and the support systems they have in place. The students listened brilliantly and attentively.

College applications are now open and the college open events have been included in the Year 11 calendar. Please check college websites for their application closing dates. Prospectuses have been given out during tutor time. There are still some available in the Careers Office too.

If students need support with their college applications, they should reach out to their tutors, year leaders, Gordon Lewis (our Careers Advisor) or our Careers Lead, Miss Clews.

Year 10

We would like to remind Year 10 parents and carers that the Work Experience Information evening will be taking place in the school hall on Thursday 9th October at 5.30pm-6.30pm. During this event, information will be shared about the work experience programme and how students should prepare for their mock interviews later in the year.

All information will be distributed following the event and it will be shared with students in an assembly afterwards.

If you have any questions or concerns, please get in touch with our Careers advisor, Gordon Lewis, at glewis@noadswood.hants.sch.uk or our Careers Lead, Miss Clews, at jclews@noadswood.hants.sch.uk.
