University Success
Congratulations to Keon Ackerman, of our Year 12 graduating class in 2021, and also School Vice Captain that year. Keon, after overcoming considerable challenges, has achieved top ten honours in the University of NSW Bachelor of medical Science, and has qualified for the Doctor of Medicine Degree, graduating in 2029. Keon has deservedly caused quite a sensation on our social media and, no doubt, will be a source of inspiration for our current students.
Well done Keon, you have done your school proud!
University Showcase
Last Friday Years 10 and 12 benefitted from ten institutions visiting our school and, no doubt, getting our students to think about the possibilities once they have finished their time at Kingscliff High School.
Thanks to Mr Ella and Mrs Rosser for their organisation.
Open Night
Hot on the heels of our successful community Open Night last term, we have another one coming up on Thursday 6 March. Any parents of students who will be starting Year 7 over the next few years are more than welcome to come along and find out what we have to offer.
Year 7 Camp
Many thanks to Mr Hunter, our energetic Year 7 Adviser and Mr Borg, our Year 7 Deputy, along with their team of teachers who will be taking Year 7 students to Tyalgum from Monday to Wednesday. This camp will provide Year 7 students with a great opportunity to make and further develop new friendships as they settle in to Kingscliff High School.
School Representative Sport
Best of luck to our AFL players, basketballers, swimmers, netballers, hockey players and rugby league players who will all be representing Kingscliff High School over the next two weeks.
Evacuation Drill
Next Tuesday (4 March) we will conduct a scheduled emergency evacuation drill. There will be no need for alarm or concern.
Canteen
Many thanks to all of our school community for their patience in this space. We will soon be able to announce a new canteen operator and when they will be commencing operations.
Inaugural National Flag Football
Congratulations to Year 11 student, Austin Kirkup, who is representing Queensland, the "Sun Devils", this weekend in the Inaugural National Flag Football competition being held at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.
Austin has been travelling to Brisbane for training every Saturday.
For those who may be interested, Flag Football is gridiron/American football's version of OzTag and will make its debut at the 2028 Olympics.

Congratulations to Hailey Peet on receiving the 2024 Dux of Kingscliff High School medal and award. Congratulations also to Brigette Coghlan who received a Band 6 in one of her HSC courses. Hailey, Brigette and their families attended the 2024 HSC Academic Recognition Ceremony earlier this month to celebrate their academic achievements. The ceremony celebrated those students who received a Band 6 for one or more of their HSC courses and for those students who received 3 or more Band 5s in their HSC courses. We wish our 2024 Year 12 cohort all the best in their future endeavours.
Karaoke
Just a few snapshots from our first Karaoke session of the year. A great turn out and lots of fun with microphones and lights! We can't wait until next week. We are able to open the performance space door so that students can sit outside to listen in good weather (or eat their lunch) too!
Beyond Broncos Workshop
The Beyond the Broncos academy held their Term 1 Workshop this week. This terms workshop focussed on the importance of setting and kicking your goals, and discovering/having strong and meaningful personal values.
Our Broncos’ ambassadors Alex Glenn and Gayle Broughton spoke about strategies that our girls can use day to day to build their confidence, encourage healthy habits and ways to put them on the right path to achieving their personal goals.
All academy girls will be working closely alongside their student support officer Jasmin throughout the year on setting goals around the following, family and community, health and wellbeing and their school and career. Whilst continuously being encouraged and mentored to achieve 90% attendance, good behaviour and positive participation.
Next terms workshop focus is on our “Next Generation - Strength, Vision and Legacy”.

HSC Drama Excursion
Last week, our HSC Drama students were fortunate enough to travel to Sydney on an overnight excursion. This excursion provided students with the opportunity to experience a showcase of the top HSC Drama projects from 2024 with performances and design exhibitions. Our students were incredibly impressed by the projects they saw and will be striving to perform on that stage next year!

During the masterclass, students will have the chance to explore and experiment with a range of creative writing and screenwriting techniques, honing their skills in a supportive and inspiring environment. This is a great opportunity for budding writers to develop their craft under the guidance of a published author.
The course runs for 5 weeks and will provide students with the skills and confidence to take their writing to the next level. We believe this masterclass will be an invaluable experience for any young writer interested in expanding their creative expression.

Student Use of Mobile Phones Policy
The NSW Department of Education has a Student use of mobile phone policy in schools, students are not allowed to use mobile phones at NSW public schools, including during recess and lunch. Updates were introduced to the Digital Devices and Online Services for Students Policy which focuses on safe, responsible and respectful use of devices and services.
At Kingscliff High School, we refer to this as the "Off and Away" Mobile Phone Policy, this means:
All mobile phones must be switched OFF and kept AWAY (out of sight) during classroom lessons, transition times between classes, and breaks.
Kingscliff High School is a mobile-free environment designed to foster improved learning and engagement. In the case of an emergency, we will always ensure you can contact your child.
The Kingscliff High School Mobile phone policy can be accessed via our website at:
