Digital Media
Digital Media I is beginning their study of film and filmmaking. Currently these students are practicing the Kuleshov effect by editing shots together to create meaning. Digital Media I students are simultaneously learning new software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, and Storyboarder.
This is Alyssa Medina reporting CTSO news for the months: January and February. CTSO Members worked on a presentation to introduce CTE classes to SkillsUSA. They were compiled of information about what it is, opportunities it has, scholarships, and how to access it. We presented it yesterday which was February 1st. A majority of students were able to log in and start the process.
Continuing in February, we plan to have a meeting with the mayor on February 6th. This is to meet and present to him what we do in CTSO, and the contributions it has made to our school. Overall, CTSO members are working hard to inform our school and community of the benefits of CTSO and SkillsUSA.
Entrepreneurship
Firstly, four of the period 4, year two seniors formed a team and took part in the SkillsUSA Entrepreneurship & Business Plan competition on Jan 13th. It was an exciting opportunity for them. We will find out their results on Feb 13th. Next week, another year 2 sophomore student will be competing in the SkillsSA resume and Job Application/Interview competition.
Year one classes have started their business plan lessons and project which will take most of this month. Students are learning about business plans, why they are important, what's included, and how to write them. Students have researched and selected businesses they would be interested in starting, while some students will be using businesses they have already started. They will then write a business plan on their selected businesses. We are reviewing each section of the business plan, and what's included in those sections. Students then work on those sections. Each section will be pulled together at the end into one completed business plan on their selected business.
Year two classes continued with their 3D printing lessons and activities. Students are finishing their 3D design projects. Prior to Christmas break, their introduction to 3D printing had them finding and printing 3D Christmas ornaments to understand the 3D printing process. We will likely have a 3D printing design competition across both classes. Next week, we will start our introduction into the Google Tool suite. This will teach students the ins/out of Google products that they will use in industry or in their own businesses.
Sports Medicine
Level ones will be focusing on the cardiovascular system. This system in our body is a system that includes the heart, blood vessels, and blood which circulate throughout the entire body.
Level two is focusing on career readiness. They will be creating resumes, cover letters, references and letters of recommendations. They will also be prepping for a mock interview.
Once their career readiness portfolio is completed students will be chosen to compete in CTE Mock Interview hosted by Hemet USD.
Recognizing CTE Students
Kevin Rodriguez
Kevin is a senior and is taking both my year 1 and year 2 program. Kevin is an amazing student and a pleasure to have in class. He is not only an active & insightful participant in both classes, but strives for success. Recently he took a leadership role and led a team of four from period 4 to compete in the SkillsUSA Entrepreneurship & Business Plan competition in January. What was most amazing is he had to coordinate and prep the team for the competition over the holiday break and remotely as the competition was the week we returned to school.
Julian Mireles and Ulises Partida
This month Julian Mireles and Ulises Partida built a tote storage organizer for Katie Kobayashi at Dartmouth middle school. We put their story on our instagram page. Since then it has been reshared by several different carpenter locals and the district interviewed them to run a story on the district website about the project.
Benjamin Melchor
Benjamin Melchor is a Digital Media I student. What sticks out most about Benjamin is his positive attitude and commitment to responsibility. Benjamin self-appointed himself as door monitor. He does this task, as well as stays caught up with classwork, and continually aims to improve his skills.
