TERM 1 - 2026

NT School of Distance Education NEWSLETTER

Our Vision

Create an inclusive learning community that inspires students to achieve their educational goals, aspirations and potential as local and global citizens.

It’s been a fantastic start to the 2026 school year at NTSDE. We’ve seen strong engagement from students across the Territory in spite of the complex weather challenges. Thank you to our families and home schools for your continued support. I hope everyone enjoys a well earned break, with more sunshine and less rain than recent weeks. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for Term 2.

Skating Into the School Year

We kicked off our first student event of the year on the ice. From first-time skaters finding their feet to confident pros showing their moves, it was fantastic to see everyone involved. NTSDE regularly host events like this to provide opportunities for students to connect with each other, build relationships and strengthen our community.

Fast Lane to the Future

Congratulations to Blake Overend on being nominated as a Junior Finalist in the NT Motorsports Awards, Blake had an outstanding 2025 season racing sedans. Alongside his racing success, Blake is completing a Cert I in Automotive and Engineering. Proof you can chase big dreams while building real skills for your future.

Student Assessment: Stage 2 Food and Hospitality Connections

While most of our learning happens online, recently Isiah was here in person completing practical work for his Stage 2 Food and Hospitality Connections. The task was a budget cooking assessment. He prepared BBQ chicken sliders - with the challenge of keeping each serving under $5. After sampling his own work, Isiah shared the sliders with his teachers and support staff, turning an ordinary Tuesday morning into a delicious treat.

Assessments Gone Airborne

Some of our Stage 2 Drone Connections students headed outside for a hands-on Drone Safety assessment - sharpening their flying skills while capturing footage and images for their folios. Real-world skills, real-world learning in action.

Connecting Students Across the NT

This term’s whole-school Zoom assemblies brought students, teachers and staff together from across the NT for announcements, celebrations and interactive moments. Over 70 students joined us online, thankyou to all who attended. At NTSDE, we do school differently - building community, engagement and meaningful learning experiences, wherever you are.

Prosperity Has Entered the Building

NTSDE is officially full of luck and prosperity for the year ahead! 🦁✨ Recently we welcomed the incredible Chung Wah Society Lion Dance Troupe as part of Harmony Week celebrations. With the beat of drums & cymbals echoing through the building, the lions brought energy, excitement and a whole lot of cultural tradition to our school. From weaving through classrooms to the grand finale at reception, it was a special moment to come together and celebrate diversity, community and new beginnings.

Building Confidence Beyond the Classroom

Recently we welcomed Jan Ridd, National Chief Operating Officer of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, to NTSDE. Her visit celebrated student achievement and the impact of the Duke of Ed program. NTSDE students continue to access powerful, life-shaping opportunities that build confidence, skills and future pathways.

Exploring Futures: Students Connect with ADF Careers

NTSDE supports students to identify their own pathway, connecting learners with real career opportunities aligned with their personal aspirations. Thanks to our dedicated Pathways to Real Jobs Coordinator, Kate, students engaged in an online homeroom session with ADF Careers, asking great questions and exploring diverse futures. Students who missed the session can contact ntsde.careers@education.nt.gov.au for access to the recording.

First Aid and Resuscitation Training

Staff built essential first aid and resuscitation skills through hands-on training, boosting confidence to respond in emergencies. Practical learning that prepares our team to support others when it matters most.
