PCL Construction Student Awards 2025

For 39 years, PCL Construction has shown unwavering support for polytechnic education. They've made substantial contributions to scholarships and projects directly impacting students, equipping them with the skills to thrive in trades and technology-based careers. Each year, 22 NAIT students receive critical financial support from PCL to continue their studies. Meet some of this year's recipients.

Ma. Jeanette Asto

This award recognizes the hard work I’ve put into building my career in construction. It’s a reminder that I’m on the right path. For my future, I plan to continue growing in the industry, take on roles in project coordination and scheduling, and contribute to building safe, efficient projects here in Alberta.

Organizations like PCL truly make a meaningful difference in the lives of people like me. I want to say a deep sincere thank you- though words hardly feel like enough. Receiving this support was more than just financial relief- it was emotional reassurance that I could keep going. Your support is changing lives in ways they may not fully realize. For people like me, it’s more than just an award- it’s hope, opportunity, and the chance to keep moving forward. My dream for the future is to own a piece of farmland with a welding shop right on the property. I’ve always had a passion for creating rustic, functional pieces- from custom gates to helping farmers with whatever they might need.

Ethan Burton

I am very grateful. This award seriously helped me get through the school year. Thank you! In the future I plan to eventually start my own welding rig and do jobs under my own business.

Robert Castle

The award financially was very generous, however, the recognition from PCL was a terrific feeling. I am so thankful this program exists. It has been a great time back at school and the recognition is tremendous. In the future I hope to work in the geotechnical field to perfect my soils knowledge and learn more about geotechnical design.

Omar Fadaly

I am grateful to PCL for providing this financial relief. I wish I could describe the true value of your donation, but words won't be sufficient, so thank you. I look forward to becoming a successful project manager, contributing to the construction industry, and growing my community network.

I felt honoured and grateful when I learned I had received the PCL Future of Construction Leadership & Community Award. It was encouraging to know that my hard work and dedication were recognized and it also gave me even more motivation to continue pursuing my goals. Financially, it has eased some of the costs of my education, allowing me to focus more on learning and less on financial stress. Beyond that, it has given me confidence and a continued sense of responsibility to live up to the values of leadership and community that the award represents. I would sincerely thank PCL for their generosity and commitment to supporting students like me. Your investment not only helps relieve financial pressure, but it also motivates us to keep working hard and striving for success. For me, this support makes it possible to stay focused on completing my mechanical engineering course and beginning my millwright journeyman apprenticeship as I work toward achieving my dual trades. Knowing that there are people who believe in my potential means a great deal, and I am truly grateful for the opportunities your support has made possible. I am excited about the opportunity to complete my dual trades, as it will give me both technical knowledge and hands-on skills to build a strong career in the trades. Long term, I hope to keep learning, growing and finding ways to contribute to the construction industry and my community.

I was very excited and surprised to hear that I was a recipient of this award. This amount is able to cover the cost of my next and final apprenticeship term tuition. Firstly, thank you! Having the financial support available makes funding school more accessible, and is a large motivating factor to keep students like myself-who are studying diligently.

This award came as a tremendous relief because as a mechanical engineering technology student, I really needed to get a new laptop with higher performance at that time. This award was a gift and it offered immense support both financially and academically. I plan to return to university to pursue a bachelor's degree. Also, I hope to contribute more to innovation in our industry and to fostering cooperation between my home country and Canada. All I want to say can be distilled into one sentence: Thank you. For students like me, the award is not only a big gift, it also helps us clarify what we truly aspire to become in the future.
