The Wave term 3 week 8

Relieving Principal's Message

Weeks 7 and 8 have been busy yet again! Once more, I get to celebrate major achievements of both our students and staff here at Ballina Public School.

Our Senior Rugby League team have been successful yet again and won both the quarter final and semi-final rounds played during Week 7 in Port Macquarie. This means our superstars are now off to the state grand final being held in Cessnock. The team plays on Tuesday 16 September and we are wishing them the very best of luck. Let’s show them what us regional students can do!

Last Week, we celebrated SASS Week. This is where we acknowledge the heart and soul of our school team- our Student Learning Support Officers and School Administration Officers. They are the face of our school and the people there to make sure your child’s day is as amazing as possible. SASS support students, teachers, parents and community. Thank you for everything you do!

Today, we welcomed our youngest members of the Ballina Public School family for their first visit to big school. Our 2026 Kindergarten students engaged in some fun learning activities and then had a picnic morning tea outside. We can’t wait for our next session held on Friday 17 October at the end of Week One, Term 4. Please contact the school office if you have a child starting Kindergarten next year who is yet to enrol.

We had three staff members and two students being acknowledged at the Goonellabah Education Office Public Education Week Awards held on Thursday, 11th September, 2025.

We celebrate Ava in Year 6 and Rylan in Year 5, Mrs Julie Streader, Mr Luke Ansell and Mrs Amber Hurrell.

K-6F has been very busy this term.

We have been caring for our animals. We have chickens, doves, budgies and silkworms. We are excited to share that our doves have recently hatched 2 eggs.

We were lucky to have a ‘Variety Bash Car’ pop in and say hello to us. It was interesting hearing the story about the Variety Children’s Charity.

Last week, K-6F went to Lismore to see the new skate park that opened recently. It was great fun. We love the big ramps and the climbing gym. We are looking forward to going back again sometime soon.

Last Tuesday, Stage 2 students visited Goanna Headlands for an excursion organised by Mr Eli Cook. It was a fantastic day in Evans Head where students explored how Indigenous Dreaming Stories are closely connected to the landscape. The excursion directly supported the Geography unit the classes have been studying.

During the day, students were shown traditional methods of making tools, including the use of rocks for cutting and shaping. They walked across the headland, observed the native flora and fauna, and learned about traditional customs and the importance of respecting and caring for country, land and waterways.

Overall, it was a highly valuable and enjoyable learning experience for both staff and students.

Mr Coulter - Stage 2 Assistant Principal

Our students had a fantastic time at the School Netball Gala Day on Tuesday 9th September!

Despite the warm weather, everyone played with great energy, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the day. It was wonderful to see their hard work and enthusiasm on display, and we are incredibly proud of how well they represented our school. Well done to all the players—you made us proud!
