2 JUNE 2025
It’s day 1 of our Camino del Norte walking from Biarritz to Saint Jean de Luz, covering a distance of around 20km. Departure around 9ish (after all, we are supposedly on holidays). Weather, not so good, but spirits are high!
Within the first 20min we were scrambling to find shelter from a passing shower, but then it was mostly dry until we arrived in Saint Jean de Luz when it briefly rained fat rain on us, so we didn’t do too bad all things considered.
it was a relatively easy walk, probably assisted with sharing the journey with our Camino Amigos. The path was a mix of road and trail walking and an abandoned overgrown path that I lead our merry band of travellers down only because it was on my map! (So what if it had cross markers indicating not to go down there!)
Coming around the last headland before Saint Jean de Luz was spectacular as the township appeared before us. On a clear fine day, you can see the Pyrenees mountains clearly in the distance, but today we were lucky just to make some of them out.
Tomorrow is a special day for one of us, so day 2 of our Camino should be another great day! Let’s hope the weather improves.
