LPA Newsletter Friday 6th September 2024

Welcome

Dear Families

It was lovely to see the students back, rested and raring to go for the new academic year. Most students are looking incredibly smart and are demonstrating their LPA value of respect, showing respect for themselves in the way they are turned out. Thank you for supporting us in relation to uniform so that we can have a community we are proud of.

We have delivered assemblies to all year groups reminding them of our standard operating procedures and shared information about the exciting house competitions that are on offer this term.

Year 11 have been introduced to the new Assistant Principal for Outcomes, Mr Cronin who is going to be their champion and support them in relation to GCSE exams, revision and preparation for the May exam series which will be here very quickly! Intervention and period 6 revision classes will start soon and all the details will be shared with students in assemblies.

We look forward to welcoming you into school for a parents’ evening, house, sporting or performing arts event soon.

Warm regards,

Mrs S Jones, Executive Principal and the Senior Leadership Team
Jack Cronin - Assistant Principal

Hi I am Jack Cronin, a new Assistant Principal for Lodge Park Academy responsible for Outcomes and Data. I have joined from Charles Read Academy so have been within DRET for a few years. I am excited to welcome the students back this week and begin to support them in their school journey. As a PE teacher I am also looking forward to engaging with students in the wide range of extra-curricular opportunities that Lodge Park provide. Through my specific role as Assistant Principal I will be working closely with Year 11 students in their final year, this will include coordinating their interventions and delivering assemblies to help ensure they realise their potential ahead of their formal GCSE exams.

Kevin King - Director of English

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as Lodge Park Academy's new Director of English. I have previously been a Head of English in Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire and Leicestershire schools but find myself inexorably drawn back to the hallowed turf of Corby. I strongly believe that literacy and the ability to understand, analyse and appropriate language are fundamental attributes to being a successful student; values which are at the heart of the school's vision. I look forward to supporting your child - and all members of our Lodge Park Academy community - in achieving their goals.

Yassine Elhasbaoui - Safeguarding Assistant Principal

My name is Yassine Elhasbaoui, and I have joined Lodge Park Academy as an Assistant Principal and English and Drama teacher this year. I am the new DSL (Designated Safeguarding Lead). My role is to coordinate the various measures and actions put in place at LPA to make sure every student is safe while they are in our care. I have a firm belief that safeguarding is the first step taken by any institution that aims to nurture, develop and enrich the lives of young people. I also believe that at LPA, safeguarding has always been at the forefront of the incredible work done by all members of the school community, and I am delighted to have joined such a dedicated body of professionals.

Successful Summer for Lodge Park’s Post-16 and GCSE students

It has been a very busy second half of the summer holidays as many of our students across both Year 11 and Year 13 have been recognised with some excellent GCSE, A-Level and Vocational outcomes. This is the huge reward for the hard work they have demonstrated.

A-Level and Vocational/ Level 3 Qualifications – Lodge Park Sixth Form

On Thursday 15th August, we celebrated the successes of our 2024 Post-16 cohort. A huge amount of support was put into place by Mr York, Assistant Principal and his dedicated 6th Form team to ensure that students were able to achieve good outcomes. Amongst those achieving particular success was Rishi Sureskumar who achieve three Distinctions including one in Business which has enabled him to secure a place at Birmingham University. Alongside Rishi we also saw excellent outcomes for Loick Harrison and Morgan Duffy who both secured outstanding outcomes in a range of subjects including IT, Physics and Sport. Those results have enabled both to secure places at their chosen Universities of Lancaster and Coventry respectively.

Our Sixth Form team have once again shown their strength in securing students on Vocational Courses with the very best outcomes across a number of subjects. The average grade for students at Lodge Park participating in Vocational Courses this year was the top grade of a ‘Distinction’.

GCSE and Vocational/ Level 1 + 2 Qualifications – Key Stage 4

There were a number of excellent outcomes for students across our GCSE courses and on Thursday 22nd August students and staff came together to celebrate their results.

Amongst those to achieve the very best outcomes were Kinuri Arachchige who achieved an amazing eight Grade 9’s and one Grade 7. Justas Pebreza also achieved very highly securing one Distinction Star, four Grade 8’s and two Grade 7’s. Hubert Rogalinski also performed extremely highly achieving 2 Grade 9’s, four Grade 8’s and three Grade 6’s. Alongside these students a great deal more achieved well and have moved on to secure places at their desired post-16 destinations including many who have stayed at Lodge Park Academy Sixth Form.

Our GCSE results also showed really clearly the impact that outstanding attendance can have on our student’s ability to achieve well in examinations. Students within the year group who had an attendance of Above 90% achieved almost a grade better than those who had more than one day off a fortnight.

The hard work now begins for both our Key Stage 4 teams and our 6th Form teams to continue our journey of improving Lodge Park Academies outcomes. Please do all you can to support us and your child to success.

We are extremely excited for another action-packed House Championship at Lodge Park Academy this year. With another 30 plus competitions, featuring some brand-new competitions as well as some old favourites, this year promises to be really exciting. There are lots of opportunities throughout the year to get involved in, starting with 7 competitions this term to kick start the race for the 2024/25 house championship". Mr Webb - Games Maker
Student Leadership

Our Year 13 students are keen to build positive relationships with our KS3 and KS4 student representatives at Student Leadership meetings throughout this term. They will also be supporting our Heads of House and House Champions at House competitions in Terms 1 and 2 before passing the baton on to our new Year 12 students.

All students in Year 7 to Year 11 will again this year be given the opportunity to apply to become a Student representative for their tutor group. Please encourage your child to take up this opportunity to develop their confidence and Leadership skills. All students have been emailed the link to this Microsoft form and Form Tutors will also be able to support them in completing this. Decisions will be made before the first Student Leadership meeting next Thursday 12th September. LPA Student Representative Application Form 2024-2025
