Welcome Dustdevils!

Monday, Feb. 16, 2026

Hey Dustdevils,

  • After two meetings in College Station, I am very happy to be back in Laredo! The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents meeting (Feb. 4-6) and Chancellor’s Century Council (CCC) meeting (Feb. 11-13) both went well and were excellent opportunities to share about all the great things happening at TAMIU. Our team put together an excellent video that I presented at the CCC. View the video now streaming on YouTube at go.tamiu.edu/ccc
  • Chancellor Hager and his wife will be traveling to Laredo this weekend to attend the Mr. South Texas luncheon. My wife and I are very much looking forward to attending the festivities associated with our first WBC, and I am sure the Chancellor and his wife will also be impressed by the hospitality this city offers.
  • We hope you enjoyed your weekend Valentine’s Day festivities! Thank you to everyone who joined us on Friday, Feb. 13, for our TAMIU-themed Valentine Card giveaway. A special thank-you to LEARN, TAMIU’s Quality Enhancement Plan for helping students create fun crafts while highlighting experiential learning opportunities, and to the TAMIU Athletics Department for adding to the celebration with a special appearance by Dusty.
  • This week, spend some time getting your financial aid questions answered during our Financial Aid Fair on Thursday, Feb. 19 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Student Center Rotunda. Meet with an advisor and learn more about scholarships, grants, and other aid opportunities.
  • Save the date for Discover TAMIU 2026! Our annual celebration features 100+ family-friendly activities for attendees of all ages. We will offer arts and crafts tables, games, live science demonstrations, music and dance performances and more. We encourage you to bring your friends, family and loved ones to campus Saturday, March 21 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. A photo gallery recap from last year’s Discover TAMIU is available at https://www.tamiu.edu/discovertamiu/gallery/index.shtml

Since Mardi Gras season wraps up on Tuesday, and as someone who grew up in Louisiana, I will simply close with this: Laissez les bon temps rouler! (Let the good times roll!)
