Jostens will be back on campus, Monday, November 6th during the lunch periods for those cadets that still want to order a FUMA class Ring. At this time, they can pick out a ring, get sized, and fill out an order form. Once this is completed, our Jostens representative will call parents for the deposit. These cadets will be presented with their rings at a special Ring Ceremony in the Spring. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. White at whiter@fuma.org.

Get to Know Our Teachers:

Mrs. Maggie Gaeth

Mrs. Gaeth enters her first year at the Academy. She teaches math, coaches the robotics team, and is the assistant band director.

Let's get to know Mrs. Gaeth!

What brought you to Fork Union Military Academy?

I was looking for a positive environment to teach in, and was referred to FUMA, where I loved the campus the first time I visited.

What made you want to become a Teacher?

I became a teacher to help people. I've always wanted to do something that really contributed to society. I didn't know I wanted to teach until I was a teacher's assistant in high school, where I tutored different age groups.

What is your favorite thing about being a Teacher?

My favorite thing about being a teacher is being able to help students grow academically. I love when a student who has been struggling with a subject, gets help, and ends up loving what they've learned.

What makes Fork Union special to you?

FUMA is special to me because it gives me a sense of belonging. I feel like this is the place that I was meant to be!

What other responsibilities do you have a FUMA besides being a Teacher?

Other than being a teacher, I am also the assistant band director and one of the robotics coaches!

What is one thing the cadets would be surprised to learn about you?

I wear ACUs for comfort and sake of not having to pick out what to wear.

Welcome to the Academy, Mrs. Gaeth!

This Week's College Acceptances

It's that time of year again when our seniors get the exciting news of college acceptances!

Our goal each year is that 100% of our seniors gain college acceptance. Each year, our seniors work hard with the College Placement and Academic Services team under the leadership of the department's Director, Kelsey Hill, and the Assistant Director, Dr. James Benson.

Check out this week's acceptances!

Cadet's On and Off Campus!

Cadet's help raise money for the USMC League!

This past weekend our Commandant, Gunnery Sergeant Charlie Coulter, took a group of cadets to Charlottesville to Assist the Marine Corps league in raising funds.

The Conductor's Corner

Welcome back to the Conductor's Corner! These past weeks, the band has been learning some new music! The marching band is learning Christmas Parade Sequence, Adeste Fidelis, and We Need a Little Christmas. Petty Officer Warren has even more songs planned for the marching band in the coming weeks.

The Honors Band is also learning some Christmas songs. So far, they have only been given Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire. These Christmas songs are in preparation for the Gordonsville parade, Keysville parade, and a tree lighting event where the band will play under a Christmas tree and then march to the Governor's MANSION!!!

The Band is getting bigger. With new cadets arriving to campus just last week, three cadets have joined the ranks of the band. One plays the clarinet, another plays the trumpet, and the last one plays the quints, which is a highly needed position. The band is getting busy again with the Gordonsville parade just around the corner on Sunday, November 11th. Will this pressure force the cadets to go above and beyond and win the parades, or will they break? Till next time from the Conductor's Corner!

This Week's Bravo Zulu Award Update

Going forward Bravo Zulu's will be handed out to each company and a staff member once per term; the Fork Union Military Faculty and Staff will meet to nominate a few who have exceeded the standards and demonstrated superlative performance. Whilst we have various awards and recognitions - a simple "Well Done!" we hope, is also appreciated. The combination of the Bravo and Zulu nautical signal flags, i.e., Bravo Zulu, also referred to as "BZ," is a naval signal, typically conveyed by flag hoist or voice radio, meaning "Well Done" with regard to actions, operations or performance.
