Year 6 Adventure at Caythorpe Court PGL

Forty-three excited Year 6 pupils set off for a three-day adventure at Caythorpe Court PGL, ready to challenge themselves, make memories and, hopefully, return with adults with a little sanity left! From the moment the coach pulled away, the excitement was impossible to contain, and the children quickly settled into what would become an unforgettable trip. Over the three days, pupils took part in a range of thrilling activities, including raft building, abseiling, zip wire, Aero Ball, trapeze and buggy building. Each activity provided opportunities for teamwork, resilience and plenty of laughter. One of the highlights was undoubtedly the raft-building challenge. Armed with barrels, ropes and varying levels of confidence in their engineering abilities, the children worked in teams to design and build rafts capable of floating. Some proved more seaworthy than others, and a few participants discovered that “waterproof” is a very optimistic term when testing these creations!Nevertheless, every group demonstrated excellent teamwork and determination. The abseiling activity saw many children conquer significant fears. Standing at the top of the tower required courage, but with encouragement from friends and instructors, pupils took a deep breath and stepped backwards over the edge. The sense of achievement at the bottom was clear to see, with many children proudly declaring they would never have believed they could do it. The zip wire provided another opportunity for bravery. After climbing to the launch platform, children soared through the air with expressions ranging from pure delight to mild terror. Fortunately, most landed with huge smiles and immediately wanted another turn. The trapeze challenged balance, confidence and nerve in equal measure. Watching classmates cheer each other on as they climbed higher and reached for the orange ball was a wonderful reminder of the supportive spirit within the year group. Many children achieved far more than they initially thought possible. Aeroball quickly became a firm favourite. Combining trampolining, basketball and competitive determination created some fiercely contested matches. It also raised the important question of whether jumping continuously for several minutes should really be possible. The children’s energy levels suggested the answer was yes. Meanwhile, buggy building tested communication and problem-solving skills. Teams had to construct and race their own buggies, requiring careful planning, cooperation and the occasional complete rethink when parts decided they preferred travelling in different directions!! Throughout the trip, what stood out most was the way the children supported one another. Whether offering encouragement at the top of an abseiling tower, cheering a friend on the trapeze or helping a team member rebuild a slightly questionable raft, the pupils consistently demonstrated kindness, resilience and teamwork. Many children faced fears and stepped well outside their comfort zones, showing remarkable courage and determination. The evenings were equally enjoyable, filled with games, laughter and stories from the day’s adventures. Don’t worry though, even when away from Skegness, football drama followed to allow the adults to feel acclimatised. By bedtime, even the most energetic pupils were beginning to discover that a day of climbing, jumping, building and adventuring can be surprisingly tiring. The trip was a tremendous success and provided countless opportunities for personal growth, friendship and fun. We are incredibly proud of all of the children for their positive attitudes, willingness to challenge themselves and support for one another. They represented the school brilliantly and returned home with wonderful memories, new-found confidence and, in some cases, a few muscles they never knew existed. Well done, Year 6 – you truly rose to every challenge and made the most of an amazing experience at Caythorpe Court.
