Opportunities to Serve

New - Welcome Guests During General Conference: We are hosting events at the church for three groups attending General Conference, and we need volunteers to welcome and offer hospitality to our international guests. New - Volunteer Greeters in the New Building: Do you have a heart for welcoming and offering hospitality? We’re looking for volunteers to serve as greeters in the new building when it opens. Volunteers will serve two-hour shifts at a "greeter desk," welcoming and directing those who come into the building. Email Rev. Jessica Dayson at jdayson@mpumc.org to find out more.

New - Volunteer at Higher Grounds Café: Do you have an inner barista? Do you wish to be a part of our new café? We are seeking volunteers to help in the café during busy times and for special evening events. Training provided in barista basics, gelato scooping, and point-of-sale technology. New - Join Our Team of 2024-2025 Sunday School Teachers: Want to make a difference in a child’s life? Want to get involved in the life of the church and meet new people? Consider being a children’s Sunday School teacher this fall! Each age level (3-year-olds-5th graders) has a teaching team, allowing you to teach just twice a month. Zoe Empowers Kenya Presentation, April 21, 9:45 a.m., Francis Chapel: Recently 13 church members visited Zoe Empowers in Kenya and witnessed God working through teens and young adults to make an impact in their communities. Join us as they share stories of hope and inspiration, Zoe’s amazing work in Kenya, and information about future trips to Zoe countries.

Sundae Fun Day for Second Graders, April 21, 4-5 p.m., room 240: Second graders, join us to play games, enjoy ice cream sundaes, and learn more about the upcoming milestone of receiving your third grade Bible. The Journey - Myers Park UMC Handbells in Concert, April 21, 6:30 p.m., Jubilee Hall: Join us for a concert featuring all of our handbell groups – from Tinkerbells to Southern Bells. Come see what handbells can do!

New - Self-Guided Tours of the New Building: The new building will be open for self-guided tours on April 28, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., April 29-May 2, 4:30-6:30 p.m. (no tours on May 1), and May 5, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Volunteers on each floor will be available to answer questions and provide directions.

Summer Opportunities

Performing Arts Camp, June 10-14, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.: Rising 3rd-8th graders are invited to join us for a week of fun, culminating in a performance of the musical 100% Chance of Rain. Camp fee is $225. Click here to register. Email Sue Bayne at sbayne@mpumc.org with any questions.

Handbell Boot Camps, June 17, 18, 20, 21 (no camp on June 19): Join Brian Childers to take your handbell ringing to the next level! Jane McAdams "Janey" Thompson, daughter of Scottie and Bo Thompson, sister of Hank Thompson, granddaughter of Barbara and Tommy Thompson, niece of Bennett Thompson (Lauren) and Craig Thompson (Ellen), and cousin of Drew, Mollie, Charlie and Gray Thompson, who died on April 9.

Kenneth Paul "Kenny" Sommerkamp, Jr., husband of LeAnn Sommerkamp and father of Ellie, Anna Davis, and Mac Sommerkamp, who died on April 11.
