Welcome back! I hope the children have had a lovely and relaxing break and are ready for the school year ahead. We have had a busy first week back!
English - We have been looking at fables this week in English. A fable is a short fictional story that teaches a moral lesson. We looked at different fables and tried to work out the message before having a go at rewriting them.
Reading - We enjoyed a trip to the library to pick out new library books before going back to class to enjoy some silent reading. We also chose our first class reader which is called ‘The Iron Man’.
P.E - We have been learning new skills this week that will help us play dodgeball. We learned that an over-arm throw is better to use in dodgeball than an under-arm throw as it allows us to throw the ball faster.
PSHE - Our topic in PSHE this half term is family and relationships. We have looked at how to support and love our family and friends, knowing the difference between conflict and bullying and what to do if we are being bullied or know someone who is, respecting everyone’s beliefs and stereotypes.
Music - In music, we have been learning about Mussorgsky who was a musician that would have a story in his mind when he wrote his music. We listened to his music and drew our own interpretations of what the story could be. The children were super at naming what instruments they could hear!
Maths - This week in maths we have been learning about place value. We have been able to identify the value of different digits in a number by knowing if it is in the hundreds, tens or ones column.
Spanish - We started Spanish lessons this week! We learnt basic greetings and how to write the date. We can't wait for our next Spanish lesson!
