ABOUT ME

My name is Isaac Goodlow and I am from University Park, Illinois. I am a junior Mass Media Arts major with a concentration in public relations at the illustrious Clark Atlanta University. Throughout my matriculation at Clark Atlanta University, I have become a member of the Philharmonic society, Orientation Guide Corp, and a spring 23 initiate of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. I also have been on the Dean's list twice and I received a music scholarship from the music department at Clark Atlanta University. What I would like to do for my career is to do PR or social media marketing for a sports team or a major company. I enjoy the work that comes with working in Public Relations because you are helping someone with their story. Helping an individual or company build and become what it is supposed to be. I contain multiple qualities and skills that will make me a great asset to any business. I am hard working, good at working with others, great communicator, creative, love writing, and great problem solver. With these skills I know that I can bring great things wherever I end up after college. So, my only question is, who is gonna be lucky enough to scoop me up first?

WHY CLARK ATLANTA UNIVERSITY...

If I'm being One hundred percent honest, for a long time in my life I had no idea what Clark Atlanta University was. I barley could even name HBCUs. At my high school they didn’t tell us about these schools like Clark. So, your still wondering how I found out about Clark right? Well it took one NBA All Star game to show me about Clark and make me interested in attending the school. It was actually the Philharmonic Society that were performing, an organization I have been a part of since my freshmen year, that made me want to apply. I found out I got in couple of days after I graduated. Things are I was still trying to decide between another school. I have to thank my grandma though for giving me the push to get out my comfort zone and come to Clark and start off fresh, and I tell you this, it was the best decision I could of made. Clark has helped me really find what I want to do with my life by being a Mass Media Arts major. I found love TV and radio and in PR and social media. Everything is digital now and being in this major will keep me with the times. Also, I found out that I really enjoy writing and creating a story by being a Mass Media Arts Major because you have to do a lot of it, and I mean a lot of it. Courses like multi-media writing and reporting made me like the aspect of running a social media page. You have to be quick with posts and learn how to write a caption the right way to grab attention. This major and my course have just broadened my life to new things and new parts of me that I didn't know of and I can’t wait to learn more and more about my career field.

Event recap Blog- For this assignment we had to 500–600-word blog about an event we attended on campus.

The Beauty Of The Coronation Experience!

Introduction

During Homecoming week at HBCUs one of the biggest events of the week is Coronation. This event was held on Thursday, October 19, in the Multipurpose Room. This is a big week for our Mr. and Mrs. At Clark Atlanta University. These groups of individuals work hard on campus to make sure that our school is the best that it can be. Making sure students are cared for and heard by the administration. But this is not only a big event at Clark Atlanta University, this is a big event around all HBCUs.

History

The Mr. and Mrs. Clark Atlanta University Coronation dates all the way back to the 80s. Before there was a Mr., it was just a Mrs. Clark Atlanta University and even before that it was Mrs. Clark College. At this time the queen of the university was voted on by their peers and was able to be recognized and crowned officially as the queen of the university. Back in 2019 the age of Mr. Clark Atlanta University had started and the two shared the day of Coronation. This day gives everyone a chance to feel like royalty and a time for the university to come together, connect back with the black royalty, and remembering the legacy of the black culture and the school’s culture. The mottos of the school, “Find a Way or Make One” and “Culture For Service” these are moments in Clark history where the university stops and feels like royalty.

Preparation

Coronation day is not just any regular old event at Clark Atlanta University. It takes a lot of preparation to get ready for this event from our kings and queens. I got to speak to the 5th Mr. Clark Atlanta University Anthony Mitchell about what the preparation was like and how it went. The 5th, Anthony Mitchell stated, "Preparing for coronation was kinda hectic. We had practice every day and we had to teach people how to dance, walk, and wave and it was just a lot to teach”, He then goes to talk about how it was all worthed at the end to see everyone do so great.

Coronation Day

Making my way to the event the line outside the building was very long. You see students, faculty, and family outside of the building urgently waiting to take their seats at this historic event. Waiting in line you see women dressed in the most beautiful gowns and men in smooth tuxedos. This just got me even more excited to get in and experience what this event was like. The event started off with the opening dance and everyone did a really good job. After that they introduced each organization's court and then the queens. It was a shock to me because as a student I didn’t know that some of these organizations had a court. Then it was time for the royal court and it was the cutest thing to see the little Mr, and Mrs. Clark Atlanta at Coronation as well. Before the current Mr. and Mrs, they had the past Mr. and Mrs. make an appearance and gave us a rundown on how things were going in their life. They did that for everyone really and I like that aspect of celebrating them and their accomplishments. Lastly, the current king made an appearance and it was great. They got recognized for them being amazing examples of Clark Atlanta students and CAU royalty.
