Welcome back
It has been wonderful to see all of the children back after the Easter break. We have an exciting summer term in store here at Parkside!
Junction Takeover Festival
Pupils in Year 4 have been working with Junction Goole to create a wonderful and accessible festival for all to enjoy. The Takeover Festival takes place at Junction on Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd May.
The bespoke line-up of activities, music & theatre have all been hand picked by the pupils, making mature choices on what’s suitable (and fun!) with budget, theme, and target audience. They have decided to theme their festival 'Family Footprints', celebrating family in whatever shape or form that takes.
All events and activities are completely free. It would be fantastic if lots of Parkside families went along. Find out more and see what's on by clicking here.
The Young Producers from Parkside have created a podcast to tell you all about Takeover Festival in their own words. Click the button below to listen.
Parkside's Got Talent
On the last day of term we held our Parkside's Got Talent competition. Huge well done to all of the children who took part - so courageous to stand up in front of peers and perform. There really is so much talent at Parkside - from singing and dancing through to magic and sports skills. Thank you also to all of the children for being a supportive audience with their encouragement and applause.
Sports Days
Just a reminder that Sports Days are coming up this half term. Please see the dates below - more details will be sent out soon.
- Mon 19th May - Year 1/2 Sports Day
- Tues 20th May - Year 3/4 Sports Day
- Wed 21st May - Year 5/6 Sports Day
- Thurs 22nd May - Reception Sports Day
Road Safety
Year 5 children have been taking part in Bikeability training sessions this week, learning important road safety knowledge and honing their skills in the live road environment. They have learnt about ensuring the road worthiness of their bikes and the importance of a correctly fitting helmet.
Please remember coats!
Please ensure that your child has a coat in school every day. The Spring weather is very changeable at the moment and can turn cooler quite quickly, therefore coats are still needed for when the children go outside.
Thank you!
A big thank you to librarians Isla J and Harriet who have donated items to make the West library look even better!
If anyone has any books, top trumps cards, board games, jigsaws or other puzzles that they would be willing to donate to school they would be greatly appreciated. Thank you as always for your support.
Reminder - School meals
Please can we remind all parents that school meals need to be paid for in advance. Please make payments on ParentPay. If you are having any difficulties making payments, please contact the office for support.
Superstar Awards
Congratulations to the children who have received awards recently for displaying our superstar qualities.
- Year 1 - Aubrey & Kaiden
- Year 2 - Eddie & Keaton
- Year 3 - Jake, Mia, Gabriella & Kevin
- Year 4 - Ava, Oliver F, Eniola & Caleb

Intrasports
The children enjoyed taking part in the intrasports today. This takes place on the first Friday of each term. It is a great opportunity for the children to enjoy some healthy competition against other classes.
New menu
Please click the button below to view the new school menu. When checking the menus each week, please make sure you look on the school website, not the East Riding one as they can differ.
Shared reading
Shared reading has lifelong benefits. Research from the Book Trust shows that children whose parents or carers like reading themselves are more likely to develop a love of reading.
If you would like advice about how to share stories together with your family, please have a look on the Book Trust Story Explorers page or get in touch with school.
Do you have a job in STEM?
We are looking for someone who has a job in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths) to help school by being a visitor on a Wednesday afternoon to give a short talk about their role from 3.00 to 3.20pm. We would like assemblies on Wednesdays to focus on aspirations for the future. If you would like to help inspire the next generation, please contact the office by email on parkside.primary@eastriding.gov.uk.
Spotlight on Attendance 🔦
See below for attendance data for the last week before the Easter holidays. The overall school attendance was significantly down, dropping to 92.77%. Please remember that every day in school counts - learning continues right up to the end of term.
Please remember that absence from school not only equates to lost learning but also missing out on other benefits to a child's wellbeing and wider development.
Please also be aware that a period of five unauthorised days out of school will incur a penalty notice. Please take note of the changes to penalty notices and our updated attendance policy. This information is also available on the Absence & Attendance page on our website.
The Department of Education has advice on improving attendance - click here to view.
If you have any concerns regarding attendance please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Greenley, our Safeguarding and Attendance officer here at Parkside Primary School.
Safeguarding and Wellbeing - Help available from school
If you have any concerns about the safety and wellbeing of a child who attends Parkside Primary or require any additional support or advice with regards to attendance please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Greenley, our Safeguarding & Attendance Officer. If you have any question or worries about your child’s behaviour or require any additional family support then please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Daine, our Behaviour & Family Support Worker. Both members of staff are also available for children to talk to should they have any worries.
If you have any Safeguarding concerns outside of school hours, or are concerned a child has suffered or is likely to suffer significant harm and is at immediate risk call the Children’s Safeguarding Hub on (01482) 395500 or ring 999 (asking for the Police).
