Message from our Principal
Welcome back to Week 7 after a wonderful long weekend of beautifully mild Winter weather.
Athletics Carnival a great success!
Last week, our school Athletics Carnival was a great success with many students achieving personal bests and strong participation from our students that attended. After a few postponements, we were fortunate that the field dried out and the day itself brought some much-appreciated sunshine for the carnival. We were able to get all of our times in for our athletes. Our Year 10 students and their Year Adviser, Mr. Brennan, did well in their fundraising activities with the BBQ as well.
A reminder to families that the Athletics Carnival is a regular day of school and not a reason to have the day off. If your young person was absent from the carnival, please make sure you contact the school to provide an absence response as for any other day. Regular attendance is so important to ensure continuity of learning as well as the opportunity to build and maintain friendships with peers. Days like the Athletics Carnival give students the opportunity to get to know their peers and teachers outside of the regular classroom environment.
Keeping our school clean
This week we are having a particular focus on cleaning up. Our SRC have identified that litter is currently a problem at our school and are encouraging their peers to pick up after themselves. Teachers on duty will be keeping an eye out for the cleanest areas and awarding Thumbs Ups to the students who keep their area clean. We have also had an echidna make our school their home and we want to make sure that they have a comfortable and clean space to live while they are visiting.
Safer Driver Course at school
This week, some of our student will have the opportunity to complete a Safer Driver course here at school. This gives our learner driver students the equivalent of 20 drive hours towards achieving their Ps.
North Coast Cross Country Carnival in Wiigulga Sports Complex
Friday sees our North Coast representatives compete in the North Coast Cross Country Carnival. We wish them all the best at this high level of competition.
Men's Health Week
This week, the NSW Department of Education is recognising Men’s Health Week. This is an opportunity to listen, learn and connect to build on how we support the wellbeing of boys and men in our schools. This year’s theme, “See you GP” encourages men to take the important step when something isn’t right to see their doctor straight away. Don’t put it off because it could make things worse. Let’s all encourage our men and boys to make their mental and physical health a priority. Get your checks fellas. At school, we have several supports in place for our young men. Dusty McOnie and Cindy Clarke, our Student Support Officers, are in the Wellbeing Hub daily and we have a school counsellor or school psychologist on site most days. Students can self-refer to the school counsellor and see a Deputy Principal or Year Adviser to access the Wellbeing Hub. We also run a number of programs throughout the year to support our young people in developing and maintaining healthy, respectful relationships and our Pride group offers support to our students in the LGBTQIA+ community.
Winter uniforms
Don’t forget to visit the P&C run uniform shop to get your MHS jumpers and hoodies for this cold snap as well.
