Top-ranked for affordable power!

At Central Georgia EMC (CGEMC), we understand that reliability matters just as much as value. That is why we are proud to be recognized as one of the most cost-effective electric providers in the state.

According to the latest results from the Georgia Public Service Commission, CGEMC ranked as the 6th lowest-cost EMC in the state at the 1,500 kWh level and held the spot for 3rd lowest at the 2,000 kWh level.

Across all common use levels, CGEMC members consistently pay less than customers of for-profit electric providers. For example, at 2,000 kWh of monthly use during the summer months, our members typically pay about 40% less than our for-profit competitors.

As a local not-for-profit cooperative, our goal is simple, to deliver reliable power and real savings to the people we serve. CGEMC membership means more than keeping the lights on; it means keeping more money in your pocket!

Don't shoot the lines

Mourning dove season is almost here. Do not let one shot knock out power or the internet.

Birds may roost on power lines, but taking aim at them can have serious consequences.

Shooting near power lines or fiber cables can:

  • Disrupt power or internet for entire neighborhoods.
  • Damage critical equipment, causing costly repairs.
  • Dangerous, and against the law.

Even a single round can bring down lines or shatter fiber strands, leaving you and your neighbors in the dark.

Help make it a safe season for everyone. Stay alert. Keep a safe distance. Know what is beyond your target.

2025-2026 Mourning Dove Season Dates:

  • September 6-October 12
  • November 22-November 30
  • December 19-January 31

CGEMC Hosts 88th Annual Meeting of Members

On the morning of August 6, members of Central Georgia EMC gathered at the Annex Building in Butts County for the cooperative’s 88th Annual Meeting of Members. Even before sunrise, members were lining up. Registration opened at 6:30 a.m., and by the time the meeting was called to order at 10 a.m., more than 800 members had registered.

Board Chairman Arthur White Jr. welcomed attendees, offered the invocation, and led the Pledge of Allegiance. The national anthem was beautifully performed by Adison Smith, a 2023 CGEMC Washington Youth Tour Delegate and current sophomore at Covenant College in Lookout Mountain. Adison is majoring in vocal performance and minoring in theatre and her talent and poise were a highlight of the morning.

Chairman White then introduced the CGEMC Board of Directors, legal counsel, and President/CEO George L. Weaver before officially closing registration and voting.

Weaver shared highlights from the past year during his President/CEO Report, and then turned the meeting over to CGEMC Attorney Steve Minor.

This year’s election results were also announced:

Warren E. Holder, representing Henry, Clayton, and Fayette Counties; Betty Jean Jordan, representing Jasper, Jones, Morgan, Newton, and Putnam Counties; and Pam Nutt, representing All Members At-Large (Post 1), were reelected without opposition to serve three-year terms.

POWERFUL CONNECTIONS

Central Georgia EMC believes the most powerful connections go beyond poles and wires. They connect people to opportunity, innovation, and each other.

This year marks a significant milestone in our mission to empower the communities we serve. With the completion of our fiber-to-the-home network, we have extended high-speed internet access to all CGEMC member locations. What began as a bold initiative to bridge the digital divide has become a reality, transforming how our members live, work, and learn. These powerful connections are about more than speed. They represent equity, progress, and a future where every member, no matter where they live, can thrive in a connected world.

In 2024, CGEMC experienced $63 million in asset growth. Amid this expansion, we remained focused on reliability and affordability, reducing the average outage time per member by more than 20% and remaining one of the lowest-cost electric providers in Georgia.

We continued to expand our services beyond electricity by offering Fuel Georgia natural gas through our wholly-owned subsidiary, renewable energy through Cooperative Solar, and value-added options, including home security and repair plans. Offering value-added services reflect our commitment to comprehensive solutions that support members’ needs.

As we celebrate this year’s achievements, CGEMC remains grounded in our purpose: delivering safe, reliable, and affordable services while building the infrastructure of tomorrow. Thank you for your trust and partnership. Together, we are creating powerful connections that energize communities and shape a brighter future. - George L. Weaver, CGEMC President/CEO

capture your share of the sun!

Central Georgia EMC (CGEMC) is dedicated to providing reliable energy while reducing our carbon footprint. As part of this commitment, CGEMC partners with Green Power EMC to offer renewable energy options that help members make a positive environmental impact.

Want to enjoy solar energy without installing rooftop panels? CGEMC’s Cooperative Solar program makes it easy. For $19 a month, members can add a 1 kW block of solar power to their account.

The energy output varies with weather and seasonal conditions, but on average, a 1 kW block generates about 180 kWh a month. This is a hassle-free way to support clean energy without any installation costs or equipment maintenance.

In addition to Cooperative Solar, CGEMC supports Green Power biomass energy, which converts landfill methane from multiple landfills across Georgia into electricity.

By purchasing 150 kWh blocks for just $4.50 a month, members help reduce harmful methane emissions while supporting renewable power generation in Georgia.

Both programs are Green-e Energy Certified, ensuring they meet the highest sustainability and consumer protection standards. By participating in these programs, members actively contribute to a cleaner, greener future. Learn more at www.cgemc.com.

Repair, Refresh, and Renovate With a 2025 CGEMC Residential Rebate!

Did you know that nearly half of the energy used in your home goes to heating and cooling? Upgrading an outdated or aging system can save you money. If your unit is more than 10 years old and needs frequent repairs, it may be time to replace it.

Water heaters use more energy than your refrigerator, clothes washer, dishwasher, and dryer combined. Upgrading your water heater can save you hundreds of dollars every year on energy costs. Visit www.cgemc.com for all the details and to see if you qualify.

*A load management switch must be installed on qualifying equipment by a Central Georgia EMC employee before the rebate can be processed. The load management switch must remain on equipment and in operating status as long as Central Georgia EMC has a load management program. Limit one (1) qualifying heat pump and/or one (1) qualifying water heater rebate per member/household. Heat pump and/or water heater must have been installed on or after January 1, 2025.
