God Speaks: Week 1 OSHI ONLINE SUNDAY SCHOOL FROM LUTHERAN BIBLE TRANSLATORS

Welcome to God Speaks!

Over the next four weeks, we're partnering with Lutheran Bible Translators and discovering how God Speaks to us today through His Word, the Bible.
Today, we'll discover that the Bible is really God's Word, and we can trust it!

Introduction

Have you ever watched "Is It Cake?" Have you ever had trouble telling if something was real or fake?

*Always make sure it's okay with an adult for you to watch a show.*

Sometimes, people wonder if the Bible is real or just made up. Today, we’ll learn why we can trust that the Bible is God’s real Word, not just a story someone made up.

God's Word

Read 2 Timothy 3:16-17. “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

We'll hear this verse every week this month. Try to memorize a section each week, so that by the end of the month, you know it by heart.

Truth

The Bible isn’t just any book. It’s God’s message to us, and it’s been around for a long time. People wrote down what God told them; even though it’s old, it’s still true today. Like in Is It Cake?, people sometimes wonder if the Bible is true. But there’s a big difference—while cake can trick people, the Bible never tricks us. It’s full of stories, but they’re real stories that tell us about God’s love and Jesus’s sacrifice for us.

There are many reasons we can trust the Bible. Archaeologists (people who dig up old things) have found evidence that matches what’s in the Bible! The Bible has existed for thousands of years, and its message hasn’t changed.

Pray

“Dear God, thank You for giving us the Bible to help us know what’s true. Help us to trust Your Word and live by it every day. Amen.”

Take Home Challenge

This week, challenge yourself to read one story from the Bible with your family. After reading, talk about why you believe the story is true and how it teaches you about God’s love or Jesus’s sacrifice. Then, think about something that might seem confusing or complicated to believe about the Bible, and ask your parents or Sunday school teacher to help you understand it better. Draw a picture of the Bible story you read, or write down one thing you learned. Bring it back next week to share what we’ve discovered about trusting God’s Word!
