International Faculty Network Connecting Across Borders: Virtual Collaborative Learning among Faculty

OCAD University's International Programs & Collaborations office launched three faculty networking groups focused on critical themes in academia: sustainability, decolonization, and artificial intelligence/new technologies. These International Faculty Networking Groups enabled OCAD U faculty to connect with counterparts from international partner institutions in bi-monthly virtual communities of practice, running from December 2023 to August 2024.

In each session, a 'faculty spotlight' segment allowed selected members to present their work, fostering open dialogues and sparking potential collaborations for curriculum development and research. Each group comprised of OCAD U faculty members and up to 15 faculty from partner institutions worldwide, creating diverse intersections of pedagogical approaches that enriched this inspiring networking environment.

Participants gained a comprehensive understanding of COIL, explored its benefits, and learned practical steps to create and implement their own COIL projects.

The workshop featured presentations, real-life case studies, and finalized in a hands-on group activity where faculty work together in breakout groups to draft preliminary COIL project plans.
