"There is no better feeling than seeing finished artwork and having your breath taken away," said former Visuals Editor Morgan Kubasko. "And that is exactly what happens when a State Press illustrator creates an image."

NOW FOR SOME OF THE BEST CREATIONS OF THE SEMESTER

This section features Villar's and State Press Illustrator Natalia Jarrett's favorite creations from the fall 2023 semester.

"One of my favorite illustrations was one of a pride flag that was made with oil paint," Jarrett said. I liked it so much because I was able to go back to what I know. I used a trusted medium like oil paint to create a painting that ended up looking very colorful and scenic in the end."

"Another one of my favorite illustrations was one I drew of a calendar. I ended up liking it so much because it was my first illustration and I associate a lot of excitement and fondness with it, as well as pride for how realistic it ended up looking," Jarrett said.

"I like this illustration I did for the Pac-12 lawsuit story by Alex Wakefield. It ended up doing really well, and it’s cool knowing that I contributed to such an important piece," Villar said. It clearly communicates the gist of the story, which is what I aim to do in all of my work."

"This illustration I did for the Rain to Roots story by Ghadiel Navarrete is one of my favorites from this past semester because it’s so cute! I wanted to reference the rainy bus stop scene from 'My Neighbor Totoro' because of the film’s environmental themes," Villar said.
