As we wind down the year 2024 and approach the holiday season, I wish all the magnolia families a happy, restful, safe holidays and a happy new year. This is our scribbles for the month of December. Hope you all will enjoy.
Practical Life
Pouring water
Materials : two small vessels, In a one vessel 1/2 to 3/4 filled with water, both on a tray, and a small towel. The aim of this practical life work is OCCI. (order, concentration, coordination and independence). Also child is learning to pour without spilling.
Baster squeezing
Materials : Transparent plastic baster, two bowls, one half full of water, a small towel, tray. Expectation of this work is also OCCI. Preparation for other squeezing exercises.
Decorating a Christmas tree
Creating an opportunity to decorate a Christmas tree as we talk about our theme in this month, "Holidays around the world" it gives a child the chance to develop OCCI and to know about Christmas.
Sensorial
Triangle box
Materials: a wooden triangular box which contains one gray equilateral triangle. Two green scalene right angle triangles with a black line on the right angle side. Three yellow isosceles obtuse triangles with black lines on the two equal sides. Four red equilateral triangles, one of which has black lines on all three sides and other three which have black lines on one side. Here the child develops the visual discrimination of plane form. Prepares for mathematics in the area of geometry.
Geometric solids
Triangular based pyramid and rectangular based pyramid
The Aim of this sensorial activity is the development of visual discrimination of three dimensional forms and development of language by naming the shapes.
Math
Sandpaper numerals
Materials: The numbers from 0-9 cut out of smooth grade sandpaper are mounted on a smooth backing and in a box to carry to sandpaper numerals. Here the child prepares the hand for writing numerals, trains the eye to recognize numerals, develops control and coordination of movement and learns the names of the numerals.
Sand Tray
This math work helps the child learn to form the numerals 1-9, to develop finger and wrist muscles, to develop hand eye coordination and prepare to write with a pencil.
Hundred board
Materials: A wooden board. The board is lined to form one hundred squares. Hundred tiles with numerals 1-100 printed on them. Working with this math work the child learns to understand of sequence of numbers 1 to 100. Learns to write the numbers on squared paper to match the board.

Materials: 4 cards containing pictures that look the same with one picture that looks different. Markers to mark the different picture on it. Here the child develops of visual discrimination and oral Language.
Word building with the moveable alphabet.
Materials: box of small objects which represent phonetic words of three letters with the same short vowel sound. Box of moveable alphabet letters. The direct aims of this work are to introduce the child to the building of three letter phonetic words. To prepare for writing phrases and sentences. To prepare for reading.

Here the child learns the about the season, sorting the objects which she can see in the seasons.

Here the child uses the land and water form nomenclature cards. The child learns the names of the land and water forms and increase the child's understanding of what the land and water forms represent.

The children learn the names of the animals in Antarctica, color it and write the names.

The Earth and the Sun (celebration of life)
Jiva Mehta celebrated her 3rd birthday walking around the sun. This celebration provide a first impression of the earth/sun relationship. To develop the impression that a year is the amount of time it takes for the earth to circle the one time. It gives the child an initial awareness of his own life and development as a person through the birthday celebration. Jiva's parents, grand mother, uncle, aunty and cousins were presented in the celebration. Thank you all for making your child's celebration a meaningful and memorable event.
