Wishing all of our MSE students, parents, community members a wonderful holiday season!
The Weekly Update
The Week Ahead!!
Winter Wellness Break
Starting after the last day of school on Thursday, we begin our Winter Break! As with any extended break it is a Wellness Break where there will be no school work done over the break and it is fully a chance to disconnect from school and connect with family. Attend to your well-being with doing something fun, taking a trip, seeing family, trying something new, reading a book, attend to your mental health and reset for improved attendance, the opportunities are endless!!
MSE Traffic Flow Reminders
Please see the attached map for traffic flow regarding parent pickup at MSE. It is very important if you are a parent picking up your child that you stay in the main lot area and do not enter the bus loop area. Students are loading busses there and staff exiting to their vehicles there and it creates a dangerous situation if parents are driving cars into the bus loops. Do not go past the "do not enter" sign on the attached map. A couple of busses were blocked from leaving today which creates a ripple effect for district transportation.
Boys basketball this week
We have 2 home games this week for students and parents to get a part of the school atmosphere as both teams are currently 4-0 on the season and look to continue their dominance on the court!!
Eagle of the Week
This week's Eagle of the Week is Alex J. who was nominated by Mrs. Watanabe who said "Alex is a joy to have in the classroom. He is a hard-worker who takes pride in completing assignments with precision and thoughtfulness. He is an active participant in class even though speaking up can be a challenge. He is unfailingly kind to students and adults. Alex shows a level of maturity in his work, his behavior, and his conversations that exceeds his age. He is a great example of what we want in our MSE Eagles." Congrats Alex!!!
"Be the Change" Winner
Congrats to this week's Positive Office Referral winner, who was Brooklyn M!! Thanks for being a positive influence on MSE!
Community Family Supports
At MSE we understand that life can be challenging, especially during times of need. Whether it's finding financial assistance, accessing childcare, or navigating healthcare services, it can be difficult to know where to turn. That’s why we are committed to helping families connect with the resources they need to thrive, especially as we head into the holiday season. To better understand how we can support you, we’ve created a brief survey. Your feedback will help us identify families in need and help connect you with resources that are available for families to support. We want to make sure that no family feels alone when they need assistance. Results are confidential and only accessed by school leadership for the sole purpose of connecting families in need to resources. If you would like to provide your information and your needs, please use the survey button below:
Parent Volunteer Program
At MSE, we believe in the partnership between parents and educators. We all are aware of the challenges facing students these days and believe in the "all hands on deck" approach to supporting students in their academic growth. We are exploring the possibility of launching a parent volunteer program to get parents involved in the academics of the students at MSE. It would involve parents volunteering during the school day to help teachers do things like work with students and help them edit, support writing assignments. Working in a classroom with a small group of kids as they work through their math assignment, help conduct a small reading group with students. The goal would be an extra adult to volunteer to help support teachers and provide more 1 on 1 help with kids! If this at all is something you would be available to volunteer with, please fill out the survey below and we will be in touch as we begin to plan and roll out this program to support our students!
Attendance Update
As we head into the Winter Season, it is important as a family to stay on top of your child's attendance so they can get the most out of their school experience. As long as your child is healthy, we encourage showing up to class when school is in session. Every day of school is an important opportunity for students to develop personally, socially and academically. It is very hard for your child to catch up when they miss a large chunk of days. We understand that children get sick, but remember that any unexcused absence for sickness without a medical note from a medical facility, counts towards the possibility of truancy being filed for chronic absences of your child.
We are on Winter Break from December 20 through January 5. School resumes on January 6, with 11 full school days off we hope that your child gets the break and rest they need. With school starting back on January 6, please refrain from extending your child's break into the week we get back as the end of the Semester rapidly approaches and then NWEA testing in late January...it is important that your child is back in school when we return from break.
Homework Club
If your child needs a place to do homework, check out the Homework Club! High School tutors, and Mrs. Hoskisson will be available to help, all you need is a ride for your child!
