CVM Launches Website Network

Four new websites under one umbrella to better serve you

Thomason Named Interim Head of CVM Department of PPM

Mississippi State University's College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. John Thomason, professor, has been named interim head of the Department of Pathobiology and Population Medicine.

Dean's Message

Dear Friends, I hope you are all having a wonderful start to 2026. After more than a year of collaboration with MSU Information Technology Systems, we are pleased to announce the launch of our new CVM Vet Med website network. To better serve our many audiences, we made the decision to develop four distinct websites. The main CVM website continues to provide general information about the College of Veterinary Medicine, including the DVM program, graduate programs, and the college’s many departments and centers. The new hospital website is a client-focused platform designed to help the general public and referring veterinarians more easily access our services and better understand the important work done in our hospitals. The new laboratory system website highlights our diagnostic laboratory services, which support veterinarians throughout the entire state. Finally, to give the program its own space to shine, the Veterinary Medical Technology program now has its own dedicated website to give the program its own space to shine. We invite you to explore our new web properties and hope you find them intuitive—and even fun—to navigate. These sites will be ever-changing, but if you encounter any issues or bugs, please report them to our marketing and communications manager, Wade Leonard, at whl5@msstate.edu. I am also pleased to share that we will expand our new program to provide a surgery-intensive short course for graduate veterinarians that helps them improve their skills with spay/neuter surgeries, thanks to a generous gift from CVM alum Dr. Todd Henderson and Nutramax Laboratories, Inc. This support includes funding for a new Shelter Medicine faculty position for five years, salary support for an additional veterinary technician, and resources for a modest, yet functional new building, which will be known as the Nutramax Veterinary Education and Training (NVET) Facility. One of the great strengths of our college is the extensive surgical training our students receive, and this expansion will further enhance our work in this area. Best regards, Dr. Nicholas Frank, Dean

Rocko's Road Back

When Rocko, a 9-year-old Labrador retriever with an unmatched love for retrieving, ran across a dove field in the Mississippi Delta in the fall of 2025, it seemed like any other hunt. But on Sept. 18, 2024, a sudden yelp stopped the day in its tracks. His owner, Nathan MacNealy, rushed to Rocko, expecting to find a thorn in his paw. Instead, he found something much worse.
