At K9 Solutions Australia, breeding elite working dogs for military and law enforcement work is a rewarding endeavour, filled with moments of triumph and joy. However, alongside the joy of seeing these dogs excel, moments of deep heartbreak come with the territory of breeding.

Our Virtus House Kennel's Charlie Litter recently brought us a rollercoaster of emotions. A healthy female pup (Miss Green) was born just after midnight, filling us with hope and excitement. However, as the moments wore on, an eerie silence followed, with no more pups arriving. Concern grew, and it became clear that something was amiss.

In the early hours we rushed VHK Eris to emergency veterinary care. The diagnosis was a twisted uterus, a serious condition that put both her life and the lives of her unborn pups at significant risk. During the emergency surgery, the vet discovered that Miss Green had been on the right side of the twist while the rest of the litter was on the wrong side. Despite best efforts, we were only able to save one more pup, who tragically passed away shortly after.

Though losing the remaining pups was a devastating blow, there is more than a glimmer of hope. Miss Green has shown incredible strength and resilience, her robust health and spirited nature indicate she will grow into a super strong dog, embodying the elite qualities we strive for in our breeding program.

VHK Eris and Miss Green are doing well, recuperating from the ordeal with remarkable fortitude. We owe a debt of gratitude to the veterinary team whose swift actions and expertise saved their lives. Their dedication and care have been invaluable during this challenging time.

While the pups' loss is a gut punch, we remain steadfast in our mission. We will continue to breed future generations of elite working dogs, ensuring they are prepared to serve at the highest levels in military and law enforcement roles. Our commitment to excellence and the well-being of our dogs is unwavering, and we look forward to the day when this resilient pup joins the ranks of her esteemed predecessors.
