Richland Northeast High School recently held its annual ‘50 Shades of Pink’ fashion show to celebrate National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Student council organizes and puts on the event to support Breast cancer survivors. Teachers and students participate and anyone can attend. Dr. Kim Moore, Richland School District 2 superintendent, attended the event and is a Breast cancer survivor herself.
“As a cancer survivor myself of ten years, any chance we get to celebrate is awesome,” Moore said.
“It’s really significant to these people to see that others care and that's really what the event is about,” Dante Green, a junior who spoke and sang, said.
Several teachers spoke and even shared their experiences with cancer or a story about loved ones who lost their battle to cancer. The event showcases the vulnerability of this life-changing illness and highlights the perseverance of survivors.
“I encourage everyone to come out next year because it’s for a worthwhile cause,” Moore stated.
