This fall, McGirr Elementary staff are thankful and grateful for many wonderful things, including their family and friends, students and staff, kindness and smiles, music, books, curious minds and the entire McGirr school community.
Farm to Table
Food Studies students from John Barsby Community Secondary recently participated in hands-on learning supported by several local farmers and facilitators. They were connecting the learning to place, culture and community, including sharing stories about Indigenous food systems in the area. Students harvested food, which they took back to their classroom - literally Farm to Table.
Early Years Family Wellness Hub
The Nanaimo Early Years Partnership and Country Club Mall host the Family Wellness Hub on Wednesday, October 23 from 10am until 2pm. The hub is available for families with children from newborn to 8 years old. Thanks to the early years partnership, this event is free and offers many resources, activities, supports and services for families.
BC Pay Transparency Act
NLPS is required by the BC Pay Transparency Act to submit an annual pay transparency report. The purpose of the pay transparency report is to identify differences in pay for certain groups, starting with gender categories. If you have not yet done so, please log on to Atrieve and provide your gender information by October 31. More information can be found here.
To meet our reporting obligations, we are asking all employees to provide gender information by completing a short online form. Please follow these steps to the form.
- Log into Atrieve. You can also use the login portal for Atrieve on the SD68 Staff webpage.
- Click on “My info” from the menu on the left.
- Click on “Documents and eForms”.
- Click on “eForms”.
- Click on “My eForms list”.
- Click on “Employee Forms” and choose “Gender for Pay Transparency”.
- Make your selection from the menu choices. (See below for definitions.)
- Click “Submit”.
XploreSportZ
Pacific Sport Vancouver Island hosts XploreSportZ programs on Saturdays for children ages 7-12 years old. The program runs from October 26 until December 14, 2024.

On Thursday, October 17, 2024 at 10:17 am, millions of people worldwide will practice how to “Drop, Cover and Hold On” during Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drills. See how NLPS is preparing their team with the DAC - Emergency Operations Centre (EOC). This video walks us through the processes we follow in case of an emergency situation.
