- I hope everyone enjoyed our 10th Annual Discover TAMIU this Saturday. We had a great weather, with thousands joining to play, learn and explore. This year's event featured 170+ activities, which included face painting, slime activities, D.I.Y. bracelets, a fish tank tour, make-your-own piggy banks, a DustyTRON robotics demonstration and so much more. - As many are viewing the Total Solar Eclipse today, please note that safety is the top priority when viewing a solar eclipse and that you should not look directly at the Sun without specialized eye protection.
- Partial Eclipse in Laredo, where the first edge of the Moon touches the Sun, begins at 12:09 p.m. Maximum Partial Eclipse, where an extremely thin crescent shape of the Sun is visible, will be at 1:29 p.m. Partial Eclipse ends at 2:51 p.m., with the last edge of the Moon leaving the Sun. - Join us to celebrate The Rhizome Experience, premiering Friday, April 12 from 7-9:30 p.m. at the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts. Rhizome Experience is a free, large-scale multidisciplinary contemporary art project organized by Artist and Visiting Assistant Professor Crystal Wagner. It represents a collaboration between faculty and students in the music, art, dance, theater, and humanities and the community. Join us and be a part of a historic undertaking at TAMIU and in Laredo...the like of which has never been seen before! More information is here.
- An on-campus lecture, “Charting New Depths: A Mediterranean-Atlantic Corridor Research Voyage,” features Dr. Zhiyang Li, assistant professor of Geology sharing his once-in-a-lifetime successful expedition through the European coast Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at 3:30 p.m. in the Academic Innovation Center, room 126. - Internationally renowned performance group Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán will take the stage at TAMIU on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. at the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall. The performance, “Cultura y Tradición,” is the capstone event of the two-day 8th Annual International Mariachi Festival at TAMIU, April 18 - 19 at the University. - Registration for Maymester, Summer and Fall 2024 is underway at TAMIU. I encourage you to view the registration schedule and learn more about the University's registration processes at the Student Registration Hub.
- Students, remember that Course Evaluation Week is Monday, April 15- Saturday, April 21. Please take the time to complete your evaluations when prompted via email. Have your say, show the way.
- The 28th Annual Western Hemispheric Trade Conference will take center stage at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) Wednesday - Friday, April 10 - 12, bringing together academic researchers, business leaders, and policy makers to discuss critical trade issues affecting the Western Hemisphere and across the globe. - Felix Salmon, author and chief financial correspondent for Axios, will present a lecture titled "The Phoenix Economy" Wednesday, April 10 at 6 p.m. at the TAMIU Student Center Ballroom. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. More information is here.

We're gearing up for the unveiling of “Rhizome,” a multidisciplinary contemporary art project organized by Artist and Visiting Assistant Professor Crystal Wagner that will be created at TAMIU this Spring 2024. The project involves a collaboration between faculty and students in the music, art, dance, theater, and humanities and the community at large.

TAMIU Breaks Ground for $71.2M Construction, Expansion
The latest chapter in TAMIU's growth and development story was celebrated with Groundbreaking Ceremonies for the construction of the Health Sciences Education and Research Center and the expansion of the Western Hemispheric Trade Center. Special guests included Judith Zaffirini, Texas State Senator, James R. “Randy” Brooks, Texas A&M University System Regent, and Jenny Jones, A&M System Vice Chancellor for Governmental Relations. Construction of these projects is scheduled for substantial completion in Spring 2026.

Recently, Dr. Zhiyang Li, TAMIU assistant professor of Geology, took part in the International Ocean Discovery Program Mediterranean-Atlantic Gateway Exchange (Expedition 401). Pandemic Helping to Drive Interest in Public Health Careers, Says TAMIU
While the COVID-19 Pandemic has impacted so many, it has also increased awareness about the importance of Public Health…and the diverse career opportunities it makes possible. TAMIU assistant professor of Public Health Dr. Cindy Lynn Salazar-Collier said the shared Pandemic experience has helped to drive interest in the University’s Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health.
