Victor Hanson Takes 1st at Section 8 Agriscience Fair

Our chapter's Executive Committee Co-Chair, Victor Hanson, submitted his AP Research Project discussing the affects of Global Warming on Corn Growth to the Section 8 FFA Agriscience Fair. He won first place at the fair with his brilliant experiments and reports.

Victor, thank you for representing Glenbard East FFA with your incredible brains and outstanding devotion to our environment and agriculture.

2024-25 Strategic Plan

1. Continue the planning and implementation of the Share Table Food Rescue Initiative at Glenbard East High School: Second semester of the 2023-24 school year, the Glenbard East FFA Chapter reinstituted the Share Table Program. The program was made in effort to reduce food waste and feed hungry students in our school community. The initiative develops leadership skills in the FFA members as well as the Glenbard East AP Environmental Science students, who volunteer for the program during and after their their Food Insecurity Unit.

Our Record Keeping Committee members, Max Salek and Nick Seybold have been diligently recording the amounts of food we have saved from the school's lunchroom. Our current total of food donated is 460 items in the first five weeks, however more food has been saved and given out in our lunchroom. Mr. Krodel brings the excess to a local shelter at the end of the week.

2. Plan and implement the Glenbard East Raised Garden Initiative as part of a larger school beautification effort on Glenbard East High School Grounds. The Raised Garden Bed Project will have students working in teams to collectively beautify the school grounds and improve functionality through plant production. The raised beds, which currently sit on the east side of the building, will require continued maintenance and care if they are to enhance the aesthetic quality and functionality of the space. The long term vision for this project is that it will be versatile in its applications, including both agricultural, horticultural, and educational purposes. These applications are able to change depending on the time of the year and the way in which the chapter decides to utilize then.

"This class is very unique to all other science classes. Usually I don’t enjoy science classes that much as I’m not good with math equations and things of that nature. This has basically nothing to do with math. I’m interested in nature and I care about where my food comes from and the environment around me." - Guiliana

"I wanted to give back to East and increase the classes growing space especially with the following construction at East." - Marisa
