PUFF

Knowing your Materials and Equipment

It is important to understand what is needed for your session and have everything to hand. You will need: Fabric, Screen, Squeegee, Spoon, Puff Binder Pigment (Optional), Heat press (heated to 180-200 degrees)
Step 1 Puff binder can be used directly from the pot for a neutral/white effect. If you require colour add up to 10g’s of pigment to the puff binder, the colour will usually be lighter than standard pigment.
Step 2 Secure your fabrics to the printing table. Spread a line of puff binder across the top of your design/fabric sample.
Step 3 Place your squeegee at a 45 degree angle and applying a firm pressure pull towards you to screen print your sample. You may need to do several pulls to get good coverage.
Step 4 Leave your sample to dry naturally, do not dry with heat as this can start to activate the puff. Heat press between 180°C - 200°C. Put the fabric under and let the heat press hover for a few seconds. A less effective fix may be obtained with an iron. Hover the iron above the print, not onto it.
Step 5 Washing is generally not necessary, but should be done very gently if required in hand hot warm water with detergent. Rinse in cold water.
