The much anticipated 'Anything Goes' production has finally taken to the stage. It runs until Saturday evening and is nothing short of brilliant.
A huge congratulations to the talented Year 5 and Year 6 pupils who are taking part. Their hard work, enthusiasm, and confidence is outstanding . We were also delighted to welcome a special visit from “The Greeks” this week, bringing history to life in the most engaging way for Year 5. To round off the week on a gastronomic note, we recognised those particularly well mannered children at the Privilege Lunch—an opportunity to celebrate their politeness, good manners and thoughtfulness
Our Whole School Production - Anything Goes
Our whole school production of 'Anything Goes' dazzled audiences this week, showcasing an incredible array of talent, energy, and dedication from students across all year groups. From the lively musical numbers to the polished choreography and confident performances, every moment reflected the hard work that has gone on behind the scenes. The cast and crew brought a real sense of joy and professionalism to the stage, supported by stunning costumes and a vibrant set. It was a true celebration of creativity and teamwork, and a memorable experience for everyone involved.
Privilege Lunch
What a wonderful Privilege Lunch we shared on Wednesday. The children who had secured 5 Privilege Cards for their great manners and kind attitude were rewarded with a fabulous lunch. Chicken burgers, corn on the cob and potato tots were much appreciated – as was the delicious (and huge) ice cream sundae.
Young Entrepreneurs Sale
We are excited about our Young Entrepreneurs Sale on Monday 23rd March!
Our Young Entrepreneurs have worked incredibly hard this term to develop their ideas, create marketing plans, and produce and upscale their products, and are now looking forward to the final and most exciting stage of their programme – the sale! We encourage pupils to bring a few pounds (no more than £10) to support this much-anticipated event, the proceeds of which will go to the charity of the YE's choice.
What happened in School this week?
On Wednesday, our Humanities Captains led a showcase assembly to teach us about the myth behind the naming of Athens. Adeline and Penelope from Year 6 delivered a wonderful showcase assembly on the Ancient Greeks. Through engaging audience participation, they brought to life the story of how Athens got its name. They showed fantastic initiative in volunteering to lead the assembly, demonstrated excellent curiosity in exploring the topic in greater depth, and displayed real creativity in their presentation. A huge well done to both girls!
Caterpillars
"Run, run as fast as you can. You can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man" could be heard coming from the little ones repeating the phrase in the story. We've had a wonderful time enjoying a range of arts and crafts using different colours, textures and lots of imagination.
Butterflies
It has been a wonderful week, filled with sunshine and plenty of time to enjoy the outdoors. We have loved exploring the forest and even celebrated a special birthday with a lovely cupcake party. The children have been busy creating Easter crafts and are thoroughly enjoying learning a cheerful new Easter Bunny song. We have also been working hard on number recognition and counting, and our teachers are incredibly proud of all the progress being made.
Reception
This week in Reception, we enjoyed reading 'We’re Going on a Bear Hunt' by Michael Rosen. The children brought the story to life with actions before creating their own imaginative bear hunts, complete with story maps featuring storms, fairy lands, castles, woods and beaches. We also learnt about St Patrick’s Day, building on our knowledge of St David’s and St Andrew’s Days. The children explored why it is celebrated, compared it to other celebrations, and made their own hats decorated with shamrocks and rainbows with pots of gold. A highlight of the week was a visit from Becky the vet from Dacre House, who showed us how she cares for animals. The children helped examine “Bert” the toy dog, discovered a plastic duck during an operation, and practised bandaging different animals. The visit was such a success that Reception are already hoping she will return soon!
Year 1
Year 1 have continued to explore measuring; this week we have looked at both mass and capacity. We have done lots of practical activities by measuring in non-standard units, using the balance scales and lots of cubes to weigh and compare the mass of different objects. The highlight of the week was picking the sunniest day so far to compare the capacity of different containers. We ordered them (correctly) and then all had a turn at measuring the amount of water they could each hold.
Year 2
Year 2 have been exploring capacity in maths while putting their creativity to the test through potion making! By carefully measuring and mixing a range of liquid ingredients, they created an imaginative collection of potions—from invisibility and dragon strength to underwater breathing, sunshine smiles, good luck and sweet dreams.
Year 3
Year 3 have been learning how to format documents in Computing. They have been practising touch typing every week and are now learning about lots of different functions in Word. They can now, amongst many other things, save their work, change the font and size, underline, insert pictures and create page borders.
Year 4
Year 4 have enjoyed a wonderfully productive week. In English, the children continued reading Riddle of the Runes, using storyboards to deepen their understanding before crafting their own writing, practising the skill of punctuating speech. In maths, they explored mixed numbers and improper fractions, developing confidence in converting between the two. The classroom has also taken on a historical feel as the class practised the Saxon craft of weaving on hand looms—an activity they have approached with great enthusiasm. In science, pupils continued their investigations into sound, testing a range of materials to discover which were most effective at insulating sound. Overall, a busy and exciting week of learning!
Year 5
Year Five were immersed in their learning for the duration of the recent Ancient Greek history workshop. Decorated with the very fashionable monobrow, they made models of body parts which they imagined were sore or sick and left them in a temple in the hope a cure would arrive. They acted a Greek Tragedy (with a roaring chorus), took part in a common Greek festival where the ugliest person was whipped with vegetables (we all thought this was hilarious), created lucky amulets, handled artefacts, sent coded messages, played knuckle bones, voted and jumped over cattle (model cows)! The classes existing knowledge shone through as did their enthusiasm to question and role play. Zeus would have been proud!
Year 6
Despite having some very tired - but very happy - 'Anything Goes' performers in Year 6, lessons have rolled on! In maths the children tackled scale factors and faced problem solving by scaling down certain measurements to redesign a room with a variety of items. In English they started the new text, 'The Unforgotten Coat' by Frank Cottrell Boyce, by finding out about life in Mongolia, and in particular, nomadic life on The Steppes. Everyone enjoyed playing football matches in the sunshine, working on their French and Spanish, but the highlight of the week was discovering more about the upcoming Year 6 production!
Super Sport Saturday
We are delighted to invite you and your children and family to Super Sport Saturday on Saturday 16th May, from 8:45am to 11:00am. It promises to be a fun and energetic morning where children can enjoy a range of activities including hockey, gymnastics, cricket, football, tag rugby and trampolining. Our experienced sports teaching staff will be leading the sessions, helping the children develop their skills while ensuring everyone has a fantastic time. The event is suitable for children aged 18 months to 11 years, so siblings are very welcome. It’s a great opportunity for families to enjoy our excellent sports facilities and have a fun filled morning together as part of the Kent College Prep community.
Host a Board and Raise Funds for KCPPA
We are inviting parents to support the promotion of our upcoming Open Morning by hosting a Knight Frank estate agents board outside their home which will advertise the date of the event. Knight Frank have kindly agreed to donate £10 to the KCPPA for every board displayed. It’s an effective way to help raise awareness of the school while also raising funds for the parent association. Please note that your property does not need to be for sale to take part.
If you are happy to have a board placed outside your home for a short period in the lead up to our Open Morning, we would be very grateful.
Your support helps raise awareness of the school in the local community while also contributing directly to KCPPA fundraising.
Thank you in advance for supporting Kent College and our parent community.
