Michigan Tech men's basketball voted GLIAC favorite for 2025-26 season
The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced the outcome of its preseason men's basketball poll for 2025-26 on Wednesday, Oct. 22.
The rankings were determined by a vote of the league coaches.
Defending regular season conference champion Michigan Tech earned the top spot in the preseason poll. The favorite Huskies received 10 first-place votes, totaling 100 points.
MTU will be lead by 2025 GLIAC Player of the Year and NABC All-American, Marcus Tomashek. The senior guard led the conference in scoring last season, averaging 23.2 points per game.
Northern Michigan was selected to place second, collecting 85 and one first-place vote. The 2024-25 Wildcats posted a 22-10 record, winning the GLIAC Tournament title and earning a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
NMU is headlined by graduate student forward Dylan Kuehl, who posted 16.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game a year ago en route to being named to the All-GLIAC First Team and All-Defensive Team for the third consecutive season.
Parkside polled third overall (80 points), a jump from its sixth-place regular season finish in 2024-25. Senior guard Josiah Palmer, who led the GLIAC in assists last season, averaging 4.7 per game, is back.
Following the Rangers closely in the rankings in fourth is Grand Valley State (74 points). The Lakers return the talented front court duo of Jalen Charity and Ethan Alderink.
Lake Superior State, who advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight in 2025, was chosen fifth (59 points) followed closely by Ferris State (6th, 57) and Wayne State (7th, 51).
Saginaw Valley State (8th, 34 points), Purdue Northwest (9th, 26 points), Davenport (10th, 20 points) and Roosevelt (11th, 19 points) rounded out the preseason poll.
Michigan Tech will see the first action of the 2025-26 campaign among GLIAC schools, participating in the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic on Nov. 1-2 in Lakeland, Fla.
