For the Love of Cats: Dr. Sharon Grace's Impact at MSU CVM

Over the last three decades, few people have witnessed and shaped as much growth at Mississippi State’s College of Veterinary Medicine as Dr. Sharon Grace. From the early days of chalkboards and handwritten notes to today’s tech-enhanced classrooms and diverse student body, she has seen the college transform into a dynamic, nationally recognized institution. But beyond the building renovations and growing class sizes, her impact is most clearly seen in the lives of her students, the animals she’s cared for, and the programs she has brought to life.

Dean's Message

Dear Friends,

It is my pleasure to share with you all the wonderful news that ground has been broken on the Nancy Fair Link Laminitis Research Center. Once complete, this facility will be the largest and most dedicated center in the world for the research and treatment of this terrible disease. We expect to have the center completed within two years, and you can expect regular updates as construction progresses.

Another CVM program some of you may not be aware of is our Center for Rural Veterinary Practice. The center’s mission is to address the need for veterinary services in rural areas of the state of Mississippi by encouraging and educating veterinary students and veterinary medical technology students in rural practice. You can learn more about the Center for Rural Veterinary Practice by clicking here.

I would like to give a special thanks to all our clinicians, technicians, support staff, and students who will spend their Thanksgiving working at the CVM. This includes personnel at the Animal Health Center and Animal Emergency and Referral Center, as well as our diagnostic laboratories and animal facilities. Our hospitals are operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and the CVM is fortunate to have such dedicated personnel to ensure our services are available all year long.

Happy Thanksgiving, Nicholas Frank, Dean

You Can't Keep Louis P Down: A Rehab Success Story

Six-year-old poodle Louis P came to the MSU CVM Animal Health Center’s Rehabilitation Service in July after a dorsal laminectomy, a spinal surgery in which part of a vertebra was removed to relieve pressure on his spinal cord to help manage Wobbler’s disease. The condition causes weakness and an unsteady, “wobbly” gait.
