WELCOME BACK Welcome back to everyone. I hope that families found time to relax and recharge during the break. Depending on where you were, the weather certainly influenced activity choices. I was able to enjoy some lovely walks during the finer weather but also appreciated the opportunity to cosy up inside with a good book or two on the wet days.

Thank you to all the families that braved the cold, wet weather to come up to school on Monday and share in their child’s learning journey during the 3-Way Conferences. The students were certainly eager to showcase their achievements and share their goals. Thanks to all our staff for ensuring the students were well prepared for these discussions and for meeting with families.

This term is shaping up to be very busy with F-2 swimming occurring each Tuesday for the first 5 weeks, our whole school Olympic celebration day on 1st August (more information to be provided next week), our 2025 transition sessions beginning in week 4, Book Week celebrations in week 6 and quite a few excursions and sporting events occurring across the term, including semester 2 interschool sport.

SCHOOL PRODUCTION This term, our students will begin rehearsing for the School Production during their weekly music lesson. The production performance is set for November 12 and 14 and there is much singing and dancing to perfect by then. So much planning goes into a school production and we are very lucky to have Renee Davey, Jen Hall and Meredith Kearney leading the way. Further details will be provided in due course.

STAFFING As Bill mentioned in the newsletter last term, he will be taking long service leave for the first six weeks of term. During his absence I will be Acting Principal.

On Monday, we farewelled Kori Stucky as she begins her family leave to await the arrival of baby Stucky. We wish Kori and her family all the very best.

We welcome Alyce Elmore and Melissa Layton onto staff. Alyce is working two days a week in a support role and Melissa is replacing Kori, teaching PE.

STATE CROSS COUNTRY Hearty congratulations to Riley Cadusch who today competed at the State Cross Country Championships at Yarra Glen This is a huge achievement, and I wish to convey on behalf of the school community how proud we are of Riley.

SMILE SQUAD The Smile Squad team finished their visit to our school at the end of term 2. They will return in approximately 12 months’ time to complete another round of dental examinations. If any student requires emergency or urgent care in between school visits, they can attend the Banyule Community Health dental clinic. Please call 9450 2000 and ask for a Smile Squad appointment.

Enjoy your week,

Gill

Welcome Back! Welcome back to Term 3. I hope you had a safe and memorable winter break!

Child Safety Code Of Conduct From time-to-time, students will be involved in challenging social situations. These, we know, can range from minor to more major arguments and interactions. As parents, we want to help our children, to protect them. If there are friendship issues that need to be addressed, you should always speak to your child’s teacher first. It is never ok to speak directly to a child who is not yours about the issue or about an incident.

Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) In Term 2, (Viewbank Voice 18 April and Viewbank Voice 16 May) I shared some information regarding some vandalism at Jilinga, as well as a School Council decision to proceed in the procurement of CCTV. I am pleased to report that a Department of Education approved installer has been appointed and we are hoping to have CCTV installed (on the Nevin Pde side of the Admin building, the back of the gym, and at Jilinga) before the end of Term 3. I will inform you when we get closer to the installation time and will provide a Department of Education approved policy directly to you, as well as placed on our school’s website. I encourage you once again to view the Department of Education’s CCTV in Schools – Installation and Management policy which is available here: https://www2.education.vic.gov.au/pal/cctv-in-schools/policy

National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) The results from the 2024 NAPLAN assessments, held in March this year, have been (or will be today) distributed to families. It is important to remember that these are a snapshot in time of your child’s learning. There has been 4 months of learning from the time of the tests, so it is likely that your child has progressed further since then.

From a broader picture, we are extremely pleased with our overall results. We have not had enough time to dig into results at this stage, but we can share the below with you. ‘Similar Schools’ refer to some Melbourne primary schools (about 25) that have a similar family-occupation and socio-economic status as Viewbank Primary School.

Year 3 - percentage of students in the Exceeding and Strong categories

• State data will be shared once made available to us

Year 5 - percentage of students in the Exceeding and Strong categories

• State data will be shared once made available to us

Please note, we had an over 98% participation rate this year in Year 3 and Year 5.

Have a great weekend,

Patrick
