Dear parents and carers,
What a wonderful and very busy month June has been! There is so much to celebrate and still so much more to come in July before we finally break up for the Summer! Thank you for all of your support in paying for trips and responding to emails - we know we have sent A LOT out to you recently but we never want to miss an opportunity for the children, even if it means some last minute organising and yet another coach to pay for!
SPORTS DAY and Family Picnic - MONDAY 30th JUNE - We will start earlier due to the hot weather forecast. Gates now open at 9.15am for a 9.30am start. If it gets to hot! children will be brought inside the building to shade and taken out for their event only. We should be able to find enough shade to enjoy the picnic outside together. Picnic take out lunch (Pizza/ Burger or Baguette) is available for children - book as normal through your STIR account. Parents to bring their own, although we will have the pizza van on site serving drinks, snacks and sandwiches if you wish to purchase. Children to come to school in their PE shorts, trainers and a t-shirt in their house colours - if you are unsure of their house check on your Arbor account - OSPREY - Green, EAGLE - Yellow, KESTREL - Red. Also remember to apply sun cream before they come to school and provide a sun hat.
Finally, before I sign off for this month, we also have wonderful baby news to share with you. Mrs Watson-Tate and her husband welcomed beautiful baby Rory to their family on 24th May and she has already popped in for a visit, which he slept all the way through!
Mrs Webb :)
Contacting Us
As a school, we pride ourselves on our community ethos and we thank you all for being a great part of that. We just want to remind you that we are always here for you as well as your child and will help with any concerns or queries the best we can. Whilst Mrs Watson-Tate is on maternity leave, please see below for our amended interim communication flowchart, in case you are not sure who would be the best person to talk to. If you are ever still not sure, just give the office a call and tell them briefly what you need and they will make sure you are put through to the right person as soon as possible.
Farmers Forever Moments
Here's a few of the wonderful things that have been happening around school this month and don't forget to check Seesaw each Friday for the year group learning newsletters that the House Captains and Ambassadors put together to reflect on the learning that has happened that week and then share this in our celebration assembly.
Open Afternoons
Thank you to all the family members that joined us for open afternoons this month too. It was great to see so many of you outside enjoying sporting activities with your children - we spotted the competitive ones amongst you! :)
Art Week
This week is art week and the children have been enjoying a number of activities. To start the week off, some of our pupils took part in the Rugby Art Gallery and Museum Creative Creatures parade through town at the weekend. They attended 3 after school workshops beforehand to make some brilliant hedgehog costumes for the parade and they looked fabulous!
There has been a lot more activity today and we will share some photos in next month's newsletter and on our Facebook/Instagram pages when I have them!
Here are some of the other exciting FARMERS FOREVER memories that have been made this month...
Year 6 trip to Bletchley Park
Healthy Body and Mind
Sporting activities
Sport and physical activity is an integral part of every school day here at AFJS! That is why HEALTHY BODY AND MIND is one of our school values. We provide as many different opportunities as possible for children to get active throughout the school day and it is our aim this year to try and get the School Games GOLD award. Here are a few of the HEALTHY BODY AND MIND opportunities that have been happening this half term
Y6 rounders
Sports week
Last week, the children got to experience lots of different sporting activities as part of SPORTS WEEK. We had our whole school potted sports afternoon, which Chase also enjoyed going out to watch with Miss Wood. All year groups got to experience Kinball for the first time (we didn't let Chase go to watch this one because a dog obsessed with balls + a giant inflatable ball didn't seem like a good mix) There were also golf sessions and yoga sessions for children to enjoy. Here are some photos as a snapshot of what we were all up to last week. A huge thank you to Mrs Beech for organising everything!
Pastoral updates
The Mental Health in Schools Team
In addition to their direct work with school and individual pupils, the team also share wellbeing resources with schools. This month's wellness theme is TALKING and these tips are just as relevant for adults as they are children. Our Children and Families team are available to talk if you ever need them - you can call the school office and ask to speak to them or email them directly at pastoral2421@welearn365.com. Tip number 3 in the poster below is something we use regularly with children in school - ask your child about their network hand :)
The FAMILY INFORMATION SERVICE
The Family Information Service phone line is a freephone number to enable anyone to contact them for support. You can call them on 0800 408 1558 with anything - even if they can't help, they may be able to point you in the direction of someone who can! You can also search their webpage for useful advice and links to places that can help with many areas of family life from debt and housing to SEND and family relationships. https://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/children-families and you can follow them on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/WarwickshireFIS/
Residentials at AFJS
Why residentials?
Residentials are such a great way for children to develop resilience and independence, which is why we have recently increased the offer we have for pupils. At AFJS, we scaffold this through the years with a school based 1 night camp in year 4, followed by a 1 night and 2 days away experience in year 5 and finally a 4 night trip to Condover in year 6 with lots of challenges for children to face from heights to water to being away from home for a longer time and much much more!
Y5 Gullivers Trip
The first ever AFJS residential trip to Gullivers Land was a huge success! The weather was good, the children had a great time and the adults were very proud of the children's behaviour throughout the trip! We have now rebooked for next year and spaces are available to book!
Year 4 School Camp
If you have a child in year 4, we are delighted to announce that sign up for residentials for your child are now open. These are available to book and pay on Arbor, under Trips. This is for both Gullivers in year 5 and Condover in year 6 due to Condover having such early booking and payment deadlines.
For those of you with children in year 3, there will be a meeting for you to attend in the Spring term of year 4 to hear more about what is on offer for your child. This may seem early but we are aiming to help spread costs and payments out to ensure as many pupils as possible can attend these trips.

Donations
Tissues please
As hay fever season is upon us, we are low on tissues and are struggling to source more from our supplier. Any donations of boxes of tissues would be most welcome, to the school office or your class teacher.
Art Supplies
If you could spare any cardboard (e.g. cereal boxes, etc), newspapers or fabric offcuts, these would be put to good use for art projects. Please drop supplies in to the office.
Wool
Mrs Jones and our lunch time crafters would appreciate any donations of wool of any kind - all balls and remnants gratefully received.
