Occupant with Autism Decal Program
To improve the safety of individuals with Autism during emergencies, whether at home or on the road, the City of Pico Rivera has partnered with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department – Pico Rivera Station to launch the Occupant with Autism Decal Program.
- The purpose of the Autism Decal Program is to provide residents who currently care for an individual with Autism Spectrum Disorder with a decal that can be placed on a window or front door of their residence or placed on the rear window of their car so that Emergency Personnel will know that there is an individual with Autism and they may be non-verbal, may wander off, or may have no awareness of danger.
- Two decals will be provided: one for placement on a frequently used vehicle and one for display at the primary residence.
- Decals made available at the Pico Rivera Sheriff’s Station and the El Rancho School Police Office
I have a son with Autism. Locally, we didn’t have a Decal Program. It has always been a concern of mine of what will happen should we be involved in a traffic incident and there’s no way to tell any of the first responders or law enforcement officers that my son will not respond to any verbal commands or answer questions, and he may just run off. There’s now some sort of reassurance with this program in place. - Gabriel Castorena, Media & Communications Supervisor

Grand Opening of the Mesrobian School Gymnasium
- On March 3, 2025, Mesrobian School proudly celebrated the grand opening of its highly anticipated gymnasium. This milestone marked the completion of a project that began in October 2022, fulfilling a long-standing vision to enhance the school’s athletic and extracurricular facilities.
- Founded in 1965, Mesrobian School is a private Armenian institution dedicated to academic excellence and cultural preservation. Serving as a vital educational pillar in the Armenian-American community, the school provides students with a rigorous curriculum while fostering a strong connection to their heritage.
- The grand opening event brought together students, families, and residents, all eager to celebrate this significant achievement. With the steadfast support of the Mayor, City Council, and City Manager Steve Carmona, the new gymnasium stands as a symbol of community collaboration and commitment to student development. This state-of-the-art facility will not only serve as a center for athletics but also as a gathering space for school events and community activities, enriching the educational experience for generations to come.
2025 Homeless Count
- On Wednesday, February 19, 2025, over 20 volunteers and outreach workers from People Assisting the Homeless (PATH) and the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) conducted the 2025 Homeless Count.
- Volunteers systematically surveyed designated census tracts covering streets, medians, and both private and public properties. Due to safety concerns, areas such as parks, rivers, and railroad tracks were excluded and will be surveyed at a later date.
- The count, which began at 8:00 p.m. at the Senior Center, aimed to gather data on the number of people experiencing homelessness and assess their living conditions. This critical effort helps organizations evaluate the scale of homelessness, allocate resources effectively, and develop targeted solutions.
- We extend our gratitude to all the volunteers who dedicated their time and effort to this important initiative.
