All possibilities of 3D printing. None of the engineering.
Tatiana's project employs tools artists already know. Sculptural intuition instead of engineering.
The project employs Stereolithography process and print with Porcelite - a resin loaded with porcelain powder. The result is study, but fireable greenware. When the greenware is fired, resin burns away and porcelain fuses.
MEET THE PRINTER
Photon X2 by Anycubic is an stereolithography printer from 2020. It retails under $200. Any contemporary Photon Anycubic is an upgrade from this guy.
Is this new?
No. Many other artists have used this process in the past. But with expensive printers or professional 3D manufacturing bureaus. The information on how-to's is scarce.
WHY DO THIS?
Tatiana wants to adapt 3D Printing ceramics for individual artists - so they get to control every part of the process, from modeling to firing.
What's Next?
The goal is to get a comprehensive guide on using this process out. We're thinking "Ceramics Monthly" but will be happy to look into the options. However, the first round of research left some questions unanswered. For example: Are there design limitations? What's the optimal firing schedule? Can artists make their own porcelain resin? So, more work needs to be done before the project can be published.
How can i Help?
The initial round was sponsored by Magellan Scholar grant from University of South Carolina, where Tatiana received her BA degree. Tatiana is looking for grants and support to continue funding this project. Academic or institutional affiliation may help.
