Nukumea Newsletter Term 1, Week 2

Kia ora and a warm welcome to Nukumea Primary School for 2024. This is the first of our newsletters for this year and as such, has a whole range of important information. You will receive newsletters from the school every fortnight, and should hear from your teachers in the week between with information more specific to each class.

We try to keep our newsletters very visual and to the point, as we want to avoid the scroll of doom newsletters where so much irrelevant info is shared that eyes glaze over and important information is missed. This newsletter is more info heavy than most will be, due to the nature of this time of year.

We have had an excellent start to the year, with all of our students settling in well and enjoying our beautiful new learning spaces and grounds. For photos from these first few days, please check out our Facebook page. Then read on to find out about important dates coming up in the next few months, swimming lessons, After School Care, music lessons and more.

Swimming Lessons

This term we are going to Northern Arena for a series of swimming lessons. Each student will have 8 swimming lessons from Monday 11th March to Wednesday 20th March. Then on Thursday 21st March we will have a fun school swimming sports at Northern Arena.

All of these lessons (and the swimming sports day) take place during the school day. We will get changed at school, hop on the bus to Northern Arena and have our 30 minute swimming lesson.

More information about this will come out in the weeks approaching the lessons, but today every student will bring home an important form. Please fill out this form about your child's swimming abilities and return to the school office, so we can place them in an appropriate group for their lessons.

A friendly new school year reminder: If your children are unwell, please keep them at home until they are well enough to come back to school. Should your child suffer from diarrhoea or vomiting, they must stay home for 48 hours after this to ensure these bugs aren't spread to other students and the school staff.

The school grounds are now accessible after school and on the weekends. There are two pedestrian gates which have the Magna Lock Pool Gate system to enter. Just pull the latch and in you go. These gates are by the school sign beside the PUDO exit and at the top of the stairs up above the courts. We do ask that families stay away from the construction zone where our buildings were last year. This will all be complete in about 5-6 weeks.

Please find below the link you will need to order our Nukumea school uniform. Our supplier Argyle will send any items you order direct to your home address.

Our school sports top must be worn by all our ākonga however this can be in combination with any of their own navy coloured shorts, skorts, skirt or trousers.

After School Care

So far we have not had enough numbers for an After School Care provider onsite, so a couple of students were attending Kelly Club at Orewa Primary School in 2023. With increased numbers in the school, we are needing to find out what the demand for After School Care is now. If you are interested in using an After School Care provider, please complete this form: https://forms.gle/kds8nj7JB9mi3Rzh9

The Auckland Regional Dental Service (ARDS) is a Te Whatu Ora-operated service, which provides FREE dental care to children across greater Auckland. In order to prevent any eligible children missing out on receiving free dental care, ARDS is cross-checking their own records with school rolls.

For our children’s better oral health and wellbeing, our school roll will be shared with the service as required. To find out more information about ARDS, please visit ards.co.nz or call 0800 TALK TEETH (0800 825 583).

Thanks to all in our growing community for your happy and smooth start to the school year. Long may this beautiful summer continue!
