DESIGNING FOR HEALTHCARE OUTREACH SPRING 2023 - UNDERGRADUATE 4TH YEAR STUDIO - INSTRUCTORS: JOHN PEPONIS (ARCH) AND JIM BUDD (ID)

STUDIO OVERVIEW

This interdisciplinary studio challenged students to explore new proposals to assist life sciences research and healthcare providers in improving access for those they serve, particularly when it comes to diversity, equity and inclusion in medical trials. Industrial design and architecture student teams have been working on the development of comprehensive proposals to address the issue of how best to build trust and engage underrepresented populations in clinical trials. This work is linked with broader considerations regarding the relationship between health, healthcare, health education, expert knowledge, and support within the community. Students have quickly understood that the relationships of trust that might support inclusive willingness to participate in clinical trials cannot be built without first rethinking the primary care interface based on the integration of physical and digital design, as well as a wholistic and integrated approach to designing all aspects of user experience.
