Welcome to Birkwood An #IncredibleCommunity

The Birkwood Values

We wish you a very warm welcome to the Birkwood Primary School Newsletter.

20th October 2023

A Message from the Headteacher

What another fantastic, full on and typically Birkwood week we have had in school! We've seen lots of hard work and also plenty of fun and joy as always.

We have now got a total figure for the sponsored read and walk. Together we have raised an amazing £4102.80 - truly outstanding, humbling and very gratefully received. Thank you so much to everyone who sponsored a child. The money will be split equally between school and McMillan Cancer. The children who raised the most money will shortly be announced and awarded with a prize. The prize has been donated and will not come from the funds so every penny shall go where intended.

I would like to start with saying thank you to everyone who took part in parents' evening. And I mean everyone! When school and families work together, it creates the best possible chance for our children to flourish. It is always a pleasure to welcome you in to school.

On Tuesday we had a wonderful visit from Dottie the therapy dog working with SY Police, and her handler. Everyone adored Dottie and seeing her interact with the children was a pleasure.

A massive thank you to everyone who joined in the fun at the Halloween Bingo. We had a fabulous evening and all monies raised will go towards subsidising class trips and other exciting events for the children. Mrs Whitfield and Miss Taylor once again did an incredible job running the event and they raised £460.

Don't forget that next week is our annual Halloween Disco. The children may dress in their fanciest or scariest clothes. Tickets are £2.50, which includes a drink and packet of crisps. If your child wishes to attend please put the money in an envelope, with their name on it, and hand in to their teacher.

Just a little reminder - please make sure you look at the bottom of this newsletter because there is lots of information on free courses, how to access help and even activities for over the half term. I must say there appears to be some excellent opportunities so hopefully plenty of our families may access some of those available.

I wish everyone a terrific weekend. Please remember next Friday is a staff training day so school will be closed to children.
