Headteacher's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
I do hope that you and your family have had a good week?
Week 3 in school has been another positive week. The children have returned fully to their routines and are now showing a good understanding of the expectations that we have of them all. Behaviours have been generally good and pupils are benefiting from the range of experiences that they access each day at school. These include class visits to Cronshaw Fold Farm, the Duke of Edinburgh experience at Wythenshawe Park, work experience and Forest School at CAFT, Swimming lessons at Stretford Leisure Centre and Longford Park for the Gym and Cycling. We continue to enrich the pupils’ curriculum wherever we can and to bring their learning to life.
Class 4 have taken part in Forest School at CAFT and have been developing their skills in the outdoor area. This continues to allow them to show growth in their independence, and I know they are working really well as a team too. The pupils who attend Greater Manchester Outdoor Learning for their ‘Duke of Edinburgh’ experience, each Thursday, are doing really well too and we are pleased with the application and resilience that these young people are showing. On Wednesday this week we had a team of KS3 and 4 boys represent the school at the MCFC’s 'City in the Community' tournament. I am told their behaviour and the manner they represented the school was exceptional; well done to all involved.
We are revisiting the ‘Zones of Regulation’ again in school; helping the children and young people to be better at self-regulation. Below are the Zones we use and we encourage parents to help us in supporting our pupils by reinforcing and talking about the ‘Zones’ at home. We will be sending home more information during the next few weeks, which we would like you to share with your child at home. Thanks in anticipation of your support.
Building activity on the school site continues to progress well and the site is starting to take shape. The noise and the disruption continues to be minimal to date. The children however, are coping well with the adjustments that we all have to make.
Can I remind you please of the following 3 really important activities that are taking place over the next few weeks which we invite you to get involved in? Please put these dates in your diary and do your best to attend:
- Macmillan Coffee Afternoon 1.45pm Friday 27th September; all welcome
- Welcome Evening for all Parents Thursday 3rd October 4pm-6pm
- Open afternoon for prospective parents Wednesday 2nd Oct 1.45pm
Best wishes for the weekend,
Mr A Moloney

In SJV we are reflecting on God’s message through Pope Francis;
‘Jesus loves us without limits. Each encounter with Jesus fills us with joy, with that deep joy which only God can give’.
- Pope Francis
The Chaplaincy Team have been busy this week. It has been so lovely to welcome back so many of our chaplains as well as introducing some new members, who have joined us this year. They have been busy helping Father Nick and I with our first major event; our Welcome Mass, which as we go to press this afternoon has just taken place! It’s important to us that we welcome all new staff and students into our SJV family and this Mass is a wonderful way to do that.
Our next major event will be our Macmillan Coffee Afternoon on Friday 27th Sept at 1.30pm. We will be hoping to raise money for Macmillan, who provide vital support for people with cancer.
Within RE we have been looking at 'Creation', which has instigated lots of discussions about how the world was made. With the older learners we have been exploring the good and bad choices we can make and how we can ask God to help us when we are struggling to decide what is best.
This week's Wednesday word is 'Serving'

Poetry Corner
This week at SJV we celebrated the launch of this year’s 'Poetry By Heart' Competition. We are no strangers to success with PBH, being Grand Finalists in 2023, so it’s very exciting to see a new set of young poets start picking their favourite poems to learn, recite and enter into this year's competition. As Black History Month approaches we thought it would be fitting to share this beautiful poem by Langston Hughes taken from the PBH timeline:
I would also like to share these words of inspiration from poet Imtiaz Dharker:
Best of luck everyone.
