Reading Girls' School newsletter - 22 SEPTEMBER 2023

Principal's message:

Our Year 11 Information Evening was a great success last night. I wish to thank all the students and parents who attended. It is important to come together at the start of the Academic Year to discuss the year ahead and how we and parents can support the students to ensure that they succeed but also that they are well-supported through what can be a stressful year ahead.

We will be hosting other information evenings, and you will be informed in due course when these will be.

We have our first House Assemblies next week. Your child may have returned home and spoke about our new House System. This is aimed at fostering a greater sense of belonging for our students. They were asked to choose and then vote on the names of inspirational women. The following were chosen:

  • Pasang Lumu Sherpa: 'Sherpa'
  • Ada Lovelace: 'Lovelace'
  • Rosa Parks: 'Parks'
  • Malala Yousafzai: 'Malala'
  • Maya Angelou: 'Angelou'
  • Fran Kirby: 'Kirby'

We are very excited about the new opportunities that the House system will bring for all the students.

I hope your child has settled into this new academic year. If you have any concerns or wish to discuss your child's progress, please do contact their Head of Year or their subject teacher. The details of which are on the school website. As another polite reminder, please put your child's name on their school uniforms as well as school bags. We are already starting to collect pieces of uniform that we are not able to return to their owners.

I wish you all a restful weekend.

Marika Farrugia, Principal
