As I write this, I’m sitting in the hospital waiting for Chris to come out of surgery. It’s the Monday following the devastating flooding in Texas, and my heart is heavy. The past few weeks have been difficult — my mom’s health has been declining, and my Grandpa was recently hospitalized again. It’s been one thing after another. As my Grandma said to me today, “Being an adult isn’t always fun.” And how true that is.
Yet, in the middle of all this heaviness, I’ve felt something I didn’t expect — peace. No, not the kind of peace the world offers, but the deep, quiet kind that only God can provide. As Philippians 4:7 says, “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
That’s exactly what I’ve been experiencing: a peace that truly doesn’t make sense given everything going on. But when I think about it, that’s the beauty of trusting in God. Psalm 55:22 reminds us to “Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you.” I’m learning to lean into that truth more each day.
Through every phone call, every prayer, every text message and meal, I have seen the love of God reflected through our church family. Today, I haven’t had to worry about my children — my parents and cousin stepped in and took care of them. Clay showed up to pray, my husband’s boss and Chris Miller were there to sit with me. And thankfully Kathy and Marcus Rumbo made sure we had dinner even though we didn’t ask. My phone has been buzzing since early this morning with reminders that we’re not alone.
Galatians 6:2 says “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” That is what CCY has done for me and my family, and what I hope we can all continue to do for one another when hard seasons come.
We were never meant to walk through life, especially the hard parts, on our own. God designed us for community. I don’t know how people face trials without faith, family, and the kind of friends who become family. My prayer is that if you find yourself in a hard place, you’ll lean in to your faith, to Scripture, and to the people God has placed around you.
Because even when life is heavy, He is strong. And He often shows His strength through the kindness of others.
Thank you, church family, for being the hands and feet of Jesus to us. I am so grateful for this village. May we continue to be that for each other, always.
CIY: A Life-Changing Experience
BY WYATT PENDLETON
My experience at CIY was life-changing, to say the least. I grew closer to God more than I ever have before. My time spent there was the highlight of my summer, as I got to study Hebrews and grow closer to my youth group.
So many of us feel like we are alone in our struggles, that we have no one to relate to or talk to. In reality, that is a lie sent by the devil to keep us trapped in our sin and shame. This camp helped me realize I’m not alone in my struggles and that I have a community to depend on and be vulnerable with.
The call I have to ministry is something that is real, and CIY helped me see that I have resources available to grow and strengthen my ministry. The worship was something we never took for granted. We sang our hearts out and lifted our hands to the Lord every single time we worshiped.
This CIY experience was the highlight of my summer, and I’m so grateful I got to spend it with the best people. CIY is not just another camp for kids—it’s a life-changing event for the next generation of Christ followers.
Thank you, CIY.

SUNDAY MORNING CLASS WITH CLAY AND JENNIFER
"One at a Time" – A 7-Week Journey. Begins Sunday, August 17 | 9:30 AM | CCY Library
What if the secret to making a real difference in the world isn't found in platform, power, or popularity, but in simply loving one person at a time?
Join Clay and Jennifer Parrett for a 7-week class exploring the life of Jesus and the powerful, personal way He changed the world, one person at a time. Based on the inspiring teaching of Kyle Idleman, this study challenges us to see people the way Jesus does and to step into our calling to live with intentional, one-at-a-time impact.
This class will encourage you to slow down, pay attention, and trust that the small, faithful steps you take with one person can ripple into something eternal. If you're longing for purpose and wondering how God can use you, this class is for you.
READY TO TAKE THE NEXT STEP?
If you’ve been attending Christ’s Church of Yukon and are ready to learn more about who we are, what we believe, and how to get connected, we invite you to our Next Level Class!
This 2-hour informational class is designed for anyone interested in becoming a member or simply learning more about our mission, values, and ministries. Clay Parrett will lead the class on Sunday, August 24th at 12:30 PM in the Celebrity Room.
After service that morning, feel free to grab lunch on your own, then meet us back at the church for a meaningful and encouraging time together.
Whether you’re brand new or have been visiting for a while, we’d love for you to join us and take the next step!
