Prep School Newsletter Friday 14 November 2025

This week has been filled with memorable moments which brought our community together, not least the whole school Remembrance Day service Tuesday. The KCPPA Bonfire Night on Saturday was fantastic - a heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this event so special. Good luck to all those pupils taking Senior School practical scholarship assessments next week!

Remembrance Day 2025

I was very proud to accompany Frida and Olivia, our Head Girl and Deputy Head Girl, to the Service of Remembrance, Thanksgiving and Dedication at the Tunbridge Wells War memorial on Sunday. It was a moving ceremony and a poignant reminder of the importance of reflection and gratitude. Mrs Hall

What happened in School this week?

Children in Need 2025

Thank you for your kind donations to Children in Need 2025! It was wonderful to see so many spots and bright yellow faces around the school today. Your generosity and enthusiasm truly make a difference — we couldn’t do it without you!

Forest Explorers - Caterpillars

Recycling Fun! This week we've been learning to help our planet by recycling. We had lots of fun sorting the cartons, plastic, paper and card into the correct containers. We even collected leaves outside carefully placing them in our wheelbarrow before any gusts of wind came along to blow them all away. We enjoyed a beautiful Autumn walk with a challenge to see who could find the biggest leaf.

Forest Explorers - Butterflies

This week, our Nursery children have been busy exploring the concept of measurement in fun and creative ways! They loved drawing around each other’s silhouettes and then using Unifix bricks to measure their lengths. Together, they counted the bricks, compared sizes, and excitedly discovered who was the tallest and who was the shortest. It was a wonderful hands-on learning experience that sparked curiosity and teamwork!

Reception

Reception enjoyed a lovely Outdoor Learning lesson with Year 5 down in the woods. We found large leaves and painted patterns on them with the help and guidance of our Year 5 friends. The leaves looked amazing and once again, we had great fun enjoying the forest.

To continue our learning about different celebrations and important days, this week our focus has been on Remembrance Day. The children learnt all about the significance of Remembrance Day before attending the whole school service on Tuesday at 11am. Afterwards the children created their own poppies.

Year 1

Year 1 have had a fun filled week, with Autumn scavenger hunts in Science, lots of rehearsals for our nativity and some super Art activities! The children behaved beautifully at our whole school Remembrance service on Tuesday and responded well to a follow up lesson, considering the people in the Armed Forces and how they help us. We also made collages and playdough poppies to help practise our fine motor skills, as well as writing a thank you letter to those who serve. The children started a new topic in Art all about sculptures; we made our hands out of clay copying the work of modern artist, Marc Quinn, who made his hands out of bread!

Year 2

This week in Year 2 we have been very busy rehearsing for The Nativity, but have still found time for lots of learning and fun! The children have been looking at subtracting across 10's in Maths and life-cycles in Science. But a highlight this week was honing our football skills in PE! We practiced passing to our teammates, aiming to score a goal and moving the ball around someone on the other team.

Year 3

Year 3 have been exploring magnets and their poles. They discovered that the north pole of one magnet will always attract the south pole of another, while two north poles or two south poles will repel each other. The class then had fun testing everyday objects to find out which ones are magnetic.

Year 4

Year 4 have had a fantastic week! They started on a high with an exciting trip to the National Gallery, where they discovered secret symbols hidden in famous works of art. 4S had a brilliant day, learned so much, and were a real credit to the school. Back in the classroom, maths lessons saw them mastering four-digit column subtraction with exchanges, while in art they created stunning chalk pictures inspired by The Iron Man. In science, they continued exploring different types of teeth and how to care for them, and began an intriguing experiment to see how sugary drinks affect an eggshell. Watch this space for the results next week!

Year 5

Ending the week celebrating and supporting Children in Need has brought a burst of colour and kindness to the classroom. Year Five have spent the week reading Beowulf where the fiendish monster Grendel is causing pain to the people of Denmark. In their writing and during role-play, the children have explored the language of this text and predicted future events. Common factors have filled our maths lessons and whilst some were away at a hockey tournament, the remaining group did a fantastic methodical maths investigation about combinations of ice cream flavours. At the end of last week, patterns were made on autumn leaves. Reception were so entranced, they joined us.

Year 6

This week Year 6 have been working extremely hard in a number of areas. In humanities they extended their research into the Aztec gods and goddesses by making their own top trumps game. There have been some supremely creative cards designed and some amazing facts uncovered! In maths they continued to look at long multiplication as well as enjoying problem solving Thursday, where they battled each other and the computer in the 'seeing squares' challenge. 'Windrush Child' continues to present some thought provoking discussions as we looked at Leonard's struggle with some aspects of 1950's England. We have also played hard in hockey, started to rehearse for the Nativity in drama and recreated our own Frida Kahlo drawings. What a week!
