Summer Programs open for registration

The Community Schools - Summer Programs 2024 are now available. The programs are available for all grade levels and include summer fun camps, theatre camps, certification courses, arts, crafts, basketball, volleyball, pickleball, dance, games, bot coding, cooking, lego and much more. GoByBike Week at École Quarterway

Congratulations to the École Quarterway school community for their participation in GoByBike Week. There might be some extra rides logged since, but as of Sunday morning, here are the team stats:

  • They rode a distance of 854 kms
  • They logged 268 rides
  • They saved 185 kg of greenhouse gases
  • 93 riders signed up for the team
  • Coal City Cycles generously donated some awesome prizes for the kids to win
There were so many smiling faces and such an amazing energy around the school!

Public Works Day

This spring, students in Grades 4 and 5 participated in the annual Public Works Day. Public Works Day is a day to showcase how public works connects us through infrastructure and service, enhancing the quality of lives in our communities. A big thank you to the City of Nanaimo for continuing to host this fun, informative and interesting event. Through interactive displays and activities, students gain an understanding of the many services provided by the Engineering and Public Works Department and the impact of Public Works to their daily lives.

Business Committee Meeting

At the Business Committee meeting on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, the committee received reports about school project planning; the carbon neutral report; and the multi-year financial plan. The committee made several recommendations including:

  • The committee recommended the Board receive the draft policy - child care services and early years programs and circulate it as a notion of motion
  • The committee recommended the Board approve the proposed five-year capital plan for 2025-2026
  • The committee recommended the Board approve the proposed minor capital plan for 2025-2026

The committee also received information about the Draft Strategic Plan including details about the engagement consultation. The south end pedestrian safety has been referred to the next Business Committee meeting. You can view the entire agenda here.

Roots of Empathy

Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools is actively looking for families, with a small baby, who would be interested in participating in the Roots of Empathy program. The baby becomes the Tiny Teacher, as students in the classroom learn about empathy

  • Please join friends and colleagues in celebrating the retirement of Guy Tohana, on Thursday, June 20, from 3:30-6:00 PM in in his garden at 454 Haliburton Street, Nanaimo.
  • Please join friends and colleagues honouring Mountain View retirees, Debbie Hastings, Debbie Cronan, Lanny Cronan, Islay Baird, Rika Spence and Kath Pettit on Friday, June 21 from 4 PM- 8 PM at the Old City Station Pub, 150 Skinner Street, Nanaimo.
