Message from the Leadership Team

Dear Noadswood families.

Thank you, first, to every member of staff who played a part in making this week's trips and events so successful throughout this year’s Activities Week. Whether it was the unforgettable adventures in Bude and Paris, the fantastic range of day trips, or our in-school Activities Week back at school, so skilfully coordinated by Miss Ebblewhite, the students have had experiences they'll treasure for years to come. We’ll be sharing more about these in our end-of-term newsletter, but we couldn’t wait to say a huge thanks to you all! My thanks, too, to parents and carers, and the students themselves – trips and unusual weeks take resilience, teamwork and an ability to respond to the unexpected, much as they are so special. We couldn’t do without anyone’s support.

This of course equally applied to the Rwanda trip which was so packed with meaningful moments and memories to last a lifetime. Again, we’ll share more details soon, but it’s safe to say it’s been truly special, too. I can’t wait to meet all of Team Rwanda after the students rejoin us from their Work Experience this week.

On the subject of Work Experience, the Year 10s really have represented Noadswood so brilliantly during their placements. Their professionalism, maturity, and enthusiasm have made us incredibly proud, at a tiring and seriously hot time of year, too. Work experience is such an important opportunity— helping students build confidence, understand the world of work, and begin to imagine the pathways their futures could take (or definitely shouldn’t!). Well done, year 10, for embracing this opportunity and thank you to Mr Lewis and Miss Clews for all of your dedication.

I was fortunate to visit 6 of our students at Hythe Primary School and another at the Lime Wood Hotel.

Comments made about the students included: ‘Proactive, wonderful connections made, got stuck in, all have been a credit to us’.

Not a word of exaggeration, it was a joy talking to them all, to see the sense of achievement shining from them, and to hear them acknowledge what they have learnt about themselves as well as the work they have done. My thanks to ALL our employers who make these placements possible – we know it is a leap of faith.

We’re excited to mention our annual Summer School, for our soon to be new Y7s taking place on Wednesday 23rd July—the very first day of the school holidays. This special event is designed to welcome and support current Year 6 pupils as they prepare for their transition into Year 7 in September.

Interested in being a helper?

If your child is already a student at our school and would like to be involved as a student helper, they should attend a short meeting on Tuesday 15th July at 11:00am during break time in M24.

Helpers play a key role in making our Summer School such a success, offering friendly support and guidance to our incoming Year 7s. It will see them being in school 9-2.15 pm on Wednesday 23rd July.

On a house keeping note, you’ll know how seriously we take our commitment to travelling safely in and around our school site. Please can we kindly ask that you refrain from using the exit gate to Noadswood School on North Road to reverse or turn your vehicle around. Students from both Noadswood and Orchard Schools use this crossing to enter and cross safely, and using this area to turn vehicles poses a significant safety risk. Your understanding and continued support in keeping each other safe is greatly appreciated.

Awesome Alumni

Steve Barnes was a Noadswood Student from 2005-2010

I am now a science teacher at a secondary school in Southampton, having undertaken a chemistry degree followed by a PhD in chemistry education. The job requires a great deal of organisation and resilience, skills I learned whilst being part of many extra-curricular clubs at Noadswood, including school productions, young enterprise, and playing for the hockey team. Of course, my passion for science was developed at Noadswood; I attended science club all the way through from Year 7 to Year 11, which even included a scientific performance at the Christmas Revue!

The teachers were so supportive of my interests and I have a lot to thank them for...I certainly would not have become a teacher today had it not been for their enthusiasm and passion (which I hope has been passed on to me)!

My love of quizzes was also nurtured at Noadswood and the general knowledge I have now stems from the excellent experiences I had on school trips and in my lessons. It's been incredible to put that knowledge to the test on multiple television quiz shows, and Noadswood is definitely a big part of that success.
